“ Goodbye, Mrs. Brown!”
It’s already 5:30 in the afternoon. Medyo madilim na kaya nagpaalam na ang lahat upang umuwi.
“ Goodbye, Engineer Takahashi!” pagpapaalam din ni Ray kay Haruto.
“ G-goodbye...” I said and quickly looked away.
“ Take care.” aniya bago kunin ang mga gamit niya at nauna nang po pumasok sa kotse niya.
“ Ang daya talaga! Kumpleto ’yong sentence ko pero sa’yo nagsabi ng ‘Take care?’ Iba din talaga kapag may nakaraan e.”
“ Pst! Shhh!” nasa likod lang kasi namin sila Megan at Leighton. Buti na lang at hindi nila naiintindihan ang pinagsasasabi nitong si Ray.
I’m in the front seat because Leighton is driving, while Megan and Ray are in the back seat.
“ Who’s that guy?” kyuryos na tanong ni Leighton.
“ Oh...you mean, Engineer Takahashi? He’s our project Engineer.”
“ Just a project engineer?”
Ray cleared his throat and looked away.
“ W-we’re batch mates.”
“ I see. My college batch mates don’t talk to me anymore, they ignore me like we never met each other. But it’s good that you guys still have closure.”
“ You’re the one ignoring them, Leighton. ”
“ I’m not talking to you, Megan.”
she rolled her eyes, “ Okay! Okay!”
“ We hang out in the same social circle, so that’s why we’re really close.” paliwanag ko.
“ I see..that’s why...”
Pagkarating namin sa bahay ay agad kong tinanong si Irish.
“ Umuwi na ba sila Mama?”
“ Opo, Ma’am. Kakauwi lang nila.”
“ By the way, this is Irish, Irish mga kaibigan ko. This is Megan, and Leighton.”
“ Hello po!”
“Hi, baby girl! Nice to meet you!” usal ni Megan at nakipag-beso kay Irish.
“ Hey, Irish. Nice to meet you.”
“ Nice to meet you too! Pasok na po kayo, Madam. Naghihintay na rin po sila sa loob.”
“ Let’s go?”
They nodded.
Naabutan ko namang tinutulungan nila sa pagluto si Manang Maribel.
“ Ma, Pa! I’m home!”
At nang makita nila kung sino ang kasama ko, ay biglang nawala ang excitement sa mga mukha nila.
Lalo na si Papa.
“ Ma, Pa, si Megan at Leighton po pala...mga kaibigan ko.”
“ Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Villanueva!” pagbati ni Megan at nakipag-beso kila Mama at Papa.
Gano’n din si Leighton na nakipag-beso kay Mama at nakipag-hand shake kay Papa.
“ Welcome to the Philippines, Megan and Leighton! I’m sorry we weren’t able to prepare much, ’cause we didn’t know you were coming.”
“ No, that’s fine, Ms. Villanueva. Actually, my brother and I came here specifically for Filipino foods. And it’s like an honor to taste your cooking.”
