Cat followed Moira down the stairs. The house had a huge basement, in which the party was being held. Moira had spent the whole week preparing it, and as a result it resembled a night club in their basement. Coloured lights streaked the darkness, highlighting silhouettes of people dancing to music pouring from a borrowed sound system.
Cat crept through the mass of heaving bodies, avoiding eye contact with everyone.
She wasn't a people person.
And neither was Luke, her step brother whose party it was. He didn't even have many friends, really. These people were all here for Moira, queen bee of high school. She felt sorry for Luke. At least she and Moira weren't blood relations. He was her brother.
Cat saw Luke standing by the buffet table with his friend, Harry. They were talking, but obviously not enjoying themselves.
She crept up to them and put her hands over Luke's eyes.
"Guess who?"
"Uh, princess Leia?"
"Nope."
"Damn."
Cat removed her hands and her turned to face her, Wrapping her in a hug.
"Kit kat! You made it, and without being forced into standard issue Barbie costume!" He chuckled. "Still, would have liked it to be princess Leia."
Harry smiled humorously and gestured towards the present table. "Haven't unwrapped them yet, there's still hope."
"Yeah, because I wouldn't notice a human sized package at all."
Cat giggled. "Maybe she's flat packed?"
Harry burst out laughing at this. "Buy your all new, limited edition, flat pack princess Leia!"
All three of them burst into fits of laughter, earning stares from nearby partiers. Luke shot them a glare. "I hate this." He said, his voice devoid of its previous mirth. "It's my own party, and I'm not even allowed to have fun without people judging me." He folded his arms and glared harshly at the dancers. "I mean, she knows I don't like this kind of thing, it's my birthday. I actually wanted to go bowling. But no, it's all the bloody Moira show, isn't it." He gestured to where she was dancing, surrounded by a gang of her friends. "I mean, look at her! My party and she's centre stage. You know, I don't even know half the people she's invited!"
Cat hugged him, feeling sorry for him, whilst Harry rubbed his shoulder soothingly.
Cat looked up at him. "Well, it's your birthday. You can do what you want. Let's go find something fun to do."

Bit of a filler chapter. Sorry its so long, it's just how it happened. Don't worry, Julian will be in it soon. Any ideas, suggestions, or comments?
