"Wait, Trial, what trial?" Cat looked around worriedly. "What do you mean, Trial?"
Julian grinned wickedly. "Why, your trial with the queen, of course. So many laws broken, tsk tsk."
"You're really enjoying this, aren't you?" Snarled Valerian.
"Immensely. Everyone is exactly where I want them."
"Don't you mean, exactly where Talitha wants them?" Cat piped up.
Julian turned to her, controlled anger written across his face.
"I'm sorry, what was that?"
"Everyone's where Talitha wants them. You have to admit, she seems to be in charge around here. You're more like her lackey then her equal partner. I mean, I'm not telling you how to play your game, but it does seem like everything is designed to Talitha's whim." Cat said, face neutral although her eyes glinted with a hidden smile.
Julian growled, actually physically growled, his face contorting with rage.
Then he seemed to regain control of himself, closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Kitten, you're walking on thin ice. Be very careful of what you say next. I'm not above harming your friends."
"Just try it." Snarled Cat. "It'll only make me hate you. And you don't want that."
They stood toe to toe, eye to eye, each trying to intimidate the other.
Excited sparks fizzed around Cat's body, almost seeming to make the air around her vibrate. The tension was deliciously unbearable.

Valerian killed the silence. "Why does he call her kitten?"

Julian's head snapped around to look at her, his evil grin once again plastered across his features. "You mean she never told you?" He looked around at the confused faces of the group. Even Harry looked curious. "Any of you?"
He turned back to Cat. "Little kitten over here has known me for a long, long time. I met her when she was small. Such an innocent, clever little girl. She was my friend before she was yours. And now, I want her back."
