Cat lead the way up the next flight of steps. This time, the prominent design was some kind of stone carving displaying images of knights and dragons, bordered by a woven design of stone roses. Cat wanted to take a closer look, but realising the gravity of the situation hurried on, leading the others upwards.
Harry had calmed down and now seemed to be coping surprisingly well. He and Lindsay were actually being quite friendly to each other, chatting about random topics, purposefully avoiding mentioning the game.
They once again reached the next floor, the bookcases now designed to show stone gargoyles like those on the stairs.
After a brief search they found the next riddle pinned to a large stone dragon, with bared teeth and spread wings, like it was about to attack. Cat admired it with a mix of awe and fear. It was both terrifying and beautiful, captivating her even though part of her screamed to run in fear. She seemed to be finding that with a lot of things lately.
Shaking her head to bring herself back into focus she slit open the letter to reveal another riddle. The most confusing riddle yet.
An elegant lady, lovely and fair,
The sweetest of faces, the nicest of hair,
Dressed herself in softest silk,
Delicate and graceful, white as milk.
The dagger hidden beneath her skirt,
Cut her lover, made him hurt.
And from the painful wound he bled,
Staining her lovely silk blood red.The red lady, with her sweet perfume,
Enchanted all those in the room."What the..." began Harry. "That makes no sense!"
"It's a riddle, it's not supposed to be easy!" Snapped Cat, surprising everyone, including herself. "Sorry." She murmured "Stressed."
"Nah, it's okay." Said Lindsay.
Cat looked at her in shock. What happened to snarky comments Lindsay, or even scared witless Lindsay? Not that Cat was complaining. This was definitely better.
Lindsay continued. "We'll probably work it out. You've done great so far, Cat, and we'll definitely help this time."
Now she was getting strange looks from both Cat and Harry.
"What? I can be a nice person too, you know."
Cat smiled and suppressed a giggle. "Well, we certainly have no objections. Anyways, doors there, let's go."
And they all walked through the stone door besides the dragon, cheerful and confident, determined looks on their faces.Riddles a bit difficult, since I made this one up too. You can guess if you like, though. Correct answers equal dedications. This riddles a bit loose, so I'll take the closest answer.
