They ran down the halls, not caring where they were going, the dragon always hot on their heels.
Suddenly, Lindsay tripped and went sprawling. The creature advanced onto her, cornering her against the wall as she frantically attempted to back pedal. It pinned her, and opened its maw, a thousand serrated teeth bearing down on her...
Lindsay screamed...And Cat pushed in front of her, smacking the dragon on the nose with her shield. It reeled back in shock. Cat fixed it with her fiercest if glares. "You wanna get to her, you'll have to go through me!"
The dragon lowered its gaze to meet hers. Electric blue met burning violet. Recognition flashed in Cat's eyes. "Wait a minute... " she murmured. The dragon pounced. Cat knocked its face aside with her shield. And then they were fighting. The dragon would stalk around Cat, then at an unexpected moment would lunge and attempt to pin her. Cat would deflect its advance, clubbing it with her shield and swinging at it with her sword. Neither seemed to be winning or losing. In fact, it was more like play-fighting, like between tiger cubs for practise. Neither actually seemed to want to hurt the other.
Cat was grinning maniacally. She was surprisingly enjoying this. The adrenaline rushing through her veins sent sparks up and down her spine, igniting her wild side.
She glanced over her shoulder at the others. "What are you waiting for? Don't just stand there, go!"
Lindsay and Harry turned and raced off towards the tower.Cat turned back to her foe. "Come on, you can fight better than that! Come on, are you a man or a... Your a dragon. Come on!"
Lindsay and Harry raced up the stairs into the tower room. At the top was a door, made of carved wood. Harry barged through it, crashing it open. "There she is! On the bed!"
They pulled back the curtains to reveal a stone woman laying on the bed, an exquisitely carved mask obscuring her face, a delicate white rose placed in her marble hands.
