The fire, it was all around her. The smoke suffocating her lungs. Around her, her childhood home burned once again, like it had so many times in her dreams.
And him.
He was there.
A small boy, redish hair like hers and the same purple eyes.
Her brother, Max.
Slowly, he walked towards her through the flames. "Help me, Cat. Help me, it hurts."
Cat's eyes prickled with tears. "I wish I could. I want to. But... You're dead! You're not real!"
Max's small lips trembled with tears. "I saved you, now you won't save me? Why? Please, Cat, I need you!"
Cat was really crying now. "Please, I want to save you. I've always wanted to save you. Please, don't do this to me."
Max looked her in the eyes, childish innocence and honesty burning into her soul. "You don't love me. You forgot all about me."
Cat fell onto her knees, wracked with sobs. "Please, don't, please! I love you. I always have and I always will. You're my brother, I would never purposefully leave you!"
Max smiled an innocent smile. He whispered in a ghostly voice. "Cat..."
Flames leapt around his small figure, swallowing him whole as Cat screamed in pain and anguish.
Cat threw herself down onto the ground, sobbing into her arms as the flames licked around her. "Please, help me." She croaked through her smoke filled throat. "Please, anyone, help me."
Suddenly, cool hands clasped her forearms, pulling her upwards.
"It's okay, kitten, I've got you."She collapsed forwards, leaning heavily on Julian. Softly, he stroked her hair and muttered comfortingly into her ear whilst he navigated them out of the flames.
Suddenly, the air was clear and crisp, cool on her cooked flesh.
She coughed, chocking up smoke.
Julian patted her back, chuckling.
"What was that about not needing me?"
