"Well, there she is." Said Lindsay, gesturing to the stone princess.
"And the rose. I bet it's the answer to the riddle. I mean, its petals are like the white silk of the gown and the thorns like the dagger beneath its skirt!"
"Yeah, but isn't there something about blood staining it red? It isn't red." Countered Lindsay.
She looked at the needle like cluster of thorns along the roses stem. "Unless... we have to make it red."
Drawing a swift breath she took her finger and pressed it to the thorns, drawing blood, and dragged it across a petal. The blood shone red on the white flower, bright and glistening, before it was sucked down into the petal, turning it a dark red. Lindsay took a sharp breath, as a sickly sweet smell emanated from the rose, filling the air with a strange, cloying perfume.

Cat was on her back, laughing her head off. The reason for this was the dragon, pinning her down and licking her face and neck, tickling her. "Stop it! Stop it! That tickles!" She giggled, wriggling around, eyes closed as she laughed.
Suddenly, the weight holding her down became lighter, as if the dragon was shrinking into a smaller creature. The touch at her neck became soft, less like a lick and more like... a kiss.

Cat opened her eyes, to look into Julian's grinning face.

"Err... hi?"
