Down the rabbit hole

"What the heck is that, the entrance to hell?" Moira looked down disdainfully at the large dark hole in the ground in place of a door.
Cat rolled her eyes exasperatedly, an action she seemed to be doing a lot lately.
"It's a rabbit hole, obviously."
"Ah."Moira shook her head knowingly. Then added "But why a rabbit hole?"
Cat opened her mouth to answer but Lindsay beat her to it.
"Because Lewis Carroll who wrote Jabberwocky also wrote Alice in wonderland. The riddle is obviously a clue."
"We're going to wonderland!" Said Valerian excitedly. Then she though for a minute and her whole demeanor changed, turning worried and slightly scared. "We're going to wonderland."
Cat peered timidly down the deep dark hole. She muttered to herself "Ah, well, c'est la vie."
And jumped down the hole.
The others looked at each other, shocked. Valerian smirked and approached the hole. Moira grabbed her arm. "You aren't seriously going to copy her!"
Valerian laughed teasingly. "I have wings."
And she threw herself down, spreading her wings to slow her decent.
Lindsay and Moira glanced at each other. Then took a run up and dived over the edge.

They fell at great speed, descending through twilight darkness, the pin prick of light above them getting smaller and smaller as they descended. All around them shapes appeared out of the dark, disapearing again in an instant. Elegant objects of indescribable beauty, strange items of bizarre design and nightmarish things that were made twisted and terrifying sailed past them in the dark.
Still they fell, darkness swallowing them deeper and deeper into its depths.
Somewhere in the back of Cat's mind, she wondered if this really was the doorway to hell.
It was beginning to feel like it.

Suddenly, they all halted with a bump, landing on a hard stone floor.
