Lindsay and Cat raced through the woods, the wolf snapping at their heels.
Lindsay yelled to Cat. "What actually are we looking for?"
"Apart from the others? Not entirely sure. But we're definitely going the right way for at least one of those goals!"
Suddenly, they ran into a clearing. There, sitting on a log in the centre of the clearing was a sobbing Valerian. Cat ran over. Behind them the wolf snarled, being unable to prevent her.
Cat crouched next to the crying girl. "It's okay, we're here now."
Valerian put her arms around Cat's shoulders and cried into her hair.
"Um, okay. That's my hair." Began Cat. She stroked Valerians hair softly. "Sssh, it's okay."
Then she scooped up the crying girl and hoisted her up into her arms. Lindsay looked at her with apprehensive eyes.
Cat shrugged. "What? She's really light."

They walked onwards, guided by the ferocious wolf. Cat and Lindsay muttering about possible answers to the riddle. Valerian had fallen asleep on Cat's shoulder. Cat sighed. It was alright for some.
"Something must have really scared her." Said Lindsay, gesturing to Valerian. "She was practically going into shock when we found her."
"Maybe she's just really scared of wolves? Or dark forests? Or the dark? Or being alone? Or some combination of those?"
"Yeah, maybe." Lindsay didn't sound too sure. "Still though, shame she's asleep. She might have a really good idea for an answer to the riddle."
Cat gave a short laugh. "Well, we know it's something to do with little red riding hood. My first guess would be hood, but in that case we've been wearing the answer the whole time. Which is unlikely. Besides, that doesn't sound anything like the riddle."
Lindsay nodded in agreement. Then, furrowed up her face in thought. "What if we looked at this another way?" She said "I Mean the answer is always an object that ends the story."
"That makes sense." Agreed Cat. "But what ends this story? Like, the woodcutters axe or something?"
Lindsay shook her head. "Originally, there was no woodcutter in the story. The oldest versions end with red riding hood and granny being eaten in grannies house by the wolf. The woodcutter was added later. It could be, but we can't be sure."
"Wait, wait, wait. Go back. What did you say?"
Lindsay gave Cat an odd look. "We can't be sure?"
"Further back. The other thing. How it ended."
"Red riding hood and granny eaten in grannies house?"
"Yes! Grannies house! It fits with the riddle! We're looking for a house!"
