An hour later, Cat and Luke were in the den with Harry, Moira and, unfortunately, Lindsay.
"So... what do you think happened?" Asked Moira.
"I know what happened." Answered Harry, going pale. "Its like in a horror movie. We played around with something we didn't understand, accidentally summoned something, it stole Pete and will now be picking us off one by one until we all die horrible deaths and and the world burns!!!"
"Woah, mate, calm down, yeah?"
Said Luke, calming his friend. "Chances are, it ain't even that bad. I mean, what kind of scary monster leaves a note."
"Yeah, but what kind of kidnapper leaves a riddle."
"Kidnapper?" Asked Cat, her face falling further. "What do you mean, kidnapper? He's not been kidnapped, has he? Has he?"
Cat was freaking out now. She collapsed on the sofa, head in hands.
Lindsay rolled her eyes. "He's not been, like, seriously kidnapped. I've had something happen like this before. Dean and the guys once got drunk and for a joke stole Lulu, my pekinese and hid her in Deans garage."
Even though she was distraught, Cat looked up with a jokingly bewildered expression. "And these are you friends because, why again?"
Lindsay rolled her eyes, eying Cat with distaste . "Actually, Dean's my boyfriend. And at least I have friends, unlike you."
"Hey, what are we, chopped liver?"
Joked Harry half-heartedly.
Cat got up off the sofa and stood, glaring at Lindsay. "You listen here, you..."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, this doesn't help, does it. Now assuming this is a joke by the guests, maybe we should be working out the letter?" Moira stepped in. This was unusual, usually Moira liked to blend with Lindsay and the other Barbies, but lately she had been acting as peacemaker between the groups.Sitting down on the sofa, she began to read the letter aloud:
" Shadows in the night, came to play... Hey, doesn't that sound familiar?"
"Yeah."Said Luke "sounds like something from that book of mum's from last night. The shadow men or something, wasn't it?"
Harry jumped up. "I told you, I told you!"
That did it.
"There is no such thing as shadow men, or demons, or spirits, or monsters in your closet!" Cat stormed out of the room, slamming the door. She stormed to her room, throwing herself onto the bed. Pausing for moment, she reached under the bed and pulled out a sketchbook. She opened it, flipping through a lifetimes worth of drawings, doodles and pictures drawn in a variety of mediums and styles.
