"Yeah, this makes no sense." Said Moira, looking confused.

Cat chewed her lip thoughtfully "Cheshire's like an actual place, isn't it? But apart from that, I have no clue."
Valerian started to giggle.
Cat looked at her. "What? What's so funny?"
"I know something you don't!" Valerian said in a sing-song voice.
Lindsay grabbed the girl by her shoulders and spun her round to face her.
"What? Tell us! Tell us now!"

"Well..." started Valerian. "They're references to the characters in the book! Our characters to be precise!"
Cat's eyes lit up. "Oh, I get it now! Curiouser is Alice, cause of the line 'Curiouser and curiouser.' Who is the blue caterpillar, as in 'who are you?', late is white rabbit and Cheshire is... so unbelievably obvious, I'm kicking myself not for seeing it. Cheshire cat."
"So... What does this mean? Why the signposts?" Asked Moira.
"'The path to insanity is your own.' " quoted Cat. "I think we each have to take a separate path."

"In what universe is that a good idea!" Screamed Lindsay.
"No universe! But its how we have to play! Do you want to win or not?!" Cat screamed back.

"Fine, fine." Lindsay mumbled. "Still think we should stay together though."
"I know. But if we don't play by the rules, chances are they'll do something horrible to us and then we have no chance of winning. Look, it'll be fine. We'll meet up again at the end." Cat said, speaking rationally.
"I agree." Valerian spoke up. "I don't like it, but I agree."
"I'm guessing no one wants my opinion, then?" Moira asked.

They all set off along their allotted pathways, calling and waving to each other, faking high spirits to hide their fear.
