I stood shaking at the entrance of the gym. Senior year prom. I was scared to say the least. Being an introvert, dances weren't really my thing. My parents made me come to this. I only had one friend and I wasn't sure that he would show up. He hardly ever showed up to school. What made me think that he would come to this? I felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack and I was ready to turn around and walk back through the school and go somewhere else. Anywhere else. I just didn't want to be there. I closed my eyes and took some deep breathes like my friend Billie had told me to do. I felt like I was getting better but when I opened my eyes, my hands were shaking worse than they had been before. I bit my lip to try and stop the tears that I knew were forming. I turned around and was about to run down the stairs that led to the gym when I saw him. I couldn't believe that he had actually come. My eyes went wide as I stared at him.

"Billie." I breathed. He smiled up at me and waved.

"Hi (y/n)." He said. I shook my head in disbelief. Billie whistled. "God you look beautiful." I laughed and ran down the stairs to him. Billie greeted me with open arms and held me tight. My head only came up to his chin, even if I was wearing heels. I buried my face in Billie's chest and let the tears fall. I hadn't worn any makeup so I wasn't worried about ruining Billie's shirt. Or messing up my face.

"No I don't Billie. And you know it." I said with a small laugh. Billie buried his nose in my hair as he gently stroked it. I was shaking and I knew that he knew. He could always tell when I was about to have a panic attack. And he knew exactly what he had to do to help me avoid it or stop it. I was grateful to him for that.

"We both know that's a lie." He whispered. "You are absolutely stunning. You look so beautiful. Green is definitely your color (y/n). Never doubt that." I hugged him even tighter. I pulled back to look up into his green eyes.

It was almost no secret that I liked Billie. Mike knew. Tre knew. My parents knew. That was one of the reasons they made me come. They thought Billie would show up and I guess they were right. I just couldn't believe that they were right. Billie smiled down at me as his hand started to gently rub up and down my back.

"You feeling better?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. "Still don't wanna go in. But I feel better." Billie laughed.

"I don't want to go in either. But your parents and my mom will kill me if we ditch. So what do you say? Wanna go to prom with me?" Billie said with a smile.

"Sure." I said as I tried to pull out of the hug. Billie locked his arms around me, keeping me in place.

"I don't think you understand what I mean (y/n)." He said. I looked up at Billie confused. "I'm asking you to prom since I haven't actually been at school to ask you before now. I'm asking you to be my date to prom." My eyes went wide and it actually dawned on me what he was asking. "You don't have to answer so quickly." Billie said with a little laugh. I could tell he was trying to joke because he thought I was keeping quiet because I didn't want to go with him.

"NO!" I cried. "I mean yes! Billie Joe, I will go to prom with you! Yes!" Billie smiled and hugged me again. He pulled away and leaned down to kiss me gently. I had a stupid grin on my face when Billie pulled back. He had a grin that matched mine.

"I can't believe that you actually said yes. Your mom said you would but I just didn't believe her. I can't believe you like me back." He said quickly, shaking his head. I laughed and linked arms with him. We started walking back up the stairs and into the gym.

"Don't you tell me that Billie. Because if anyone had ever told me I would be going to prom with the guy I've had a crush on for years, I would tell them to fuck off." I said. Billie laughed and looked at me. I returned his gaze. "Billie, just so y'know, if you ever ask me to do something like this, no matter how introverted I am, I will say yes. You can bet on that." Billie smiled and nodded.

"Good to know (y/n). Good to know." Billie said as he leaned down to kiss my cheek as we walked into the prom.
