Chapter 78: "Let's Do It"
Jolene Milford's POV

- - -

There's something about the chilly Michigan air today that just makes me feel at ease. I'm not sure what it is, or why, but I feel like today is going to be pretty damn nice.

I guess a lot of it has to do with the fact that today is the first of three days that Kev and I have off, and we're spending it all by ourselves out at his house. I mean, I love working and hanging out with our friends, but it's not often that Kev and I have much time to ourselves anymore.

Besides, the longer we're away from WCW, the less we have to deal with our problems. I know WCW is going under and there's nothing we can do about it. I know that Eric is running the company into the ground. I know that Scott is still going through a lot of shit, shit that he's hopefully going to talk to me about in the future.

But for now, I don't have to worry about anything. I'm just going to enjoy a few days off of work with man of my dreams. That sounds perfect to me.

A strong breeze cuts through the air, and I pull the hoodie that I'm wearing closer around me. It's just one of Kev's old hoodies that has 'Detroit' written on it and a picture of some buildings, but it's really warm and it smells just like him, so I love it.

Of course, by the time I'm through with it, it'll smell like peachy smoke, but that's aside the point.

Speaking of smoke, I finish the cigarette that I've been puffing on out here and then put it out in my ash tray. As I look down at the ash tray, I feel a pain in my heart. This happens every time I use this one, but at the same time, it's the reason I love this ash tray.

It's the one Kid got me for my birthday a few years ago.

I rub my thumb across the side of the ash tray before I stand up and make my way back inside. The house is quite a lot warmer than it is outside, obviously, which is nice. But to be fair, unless a breeze comes by, it's really not that cold out.

It's a nice sort of chilly. Or, maybe I'm just weird, where I'm a November baby?

"There you are." Kev greets me with a grin once he notices me walk into the living room. He's been packing up a bag for us, because he's planned everything we're going to do today. "I'll be ready in just a second, babe."

We're going to be out on the four wheeler most of the day, I know that much. That's why he's packing a bag; he doesn't want us to have to come back out to the house until we're done.

I walk behind him and wrap my arms around his waist, just so that I can lean against him. I place a kiss on his back before resting my cheek against it.

"Where are we going first?" I ask as I hug him close to me. "Are we going out by the lake? Or one of the nearby fields?"

"We're going to go anywhere we want to, baby. The world is ours to explore." I feel Kev rustle around for a moment before he turns around in my arms. He leans down and gives me a sweet kiss before he holds a hand out. "Do you want me to put your smokes in the bag?"

"Oh, yeah!" I drop my arms from around Kev before I reach into the pocket of the hoodie I'm wearing and pull out my lighter and my carton. "Thanks."

Kev takes the smokes and lighter out of my hand and then puts them into the bag. He zips the bag up and then he slings it over his shoulder. I'm assuming he's got all kinds of shit in there, like drinks, snacks, and whatever else we'd need.

I don't know, Kev is a lot better at planning things than I am.

"Let me know when you want to head out for dinner later on, okay? I've got a nice little place I want to take you to tonight." Kev tells me as he leads us over to the door. He snags the four wheeler keys and our sunglasses on the way out.
