Chapter 61: "Where the Big Boys Play"
Third Person POV
- - -
When the fateful day that Scott would return to WCW finally arrived, Jolene could barely contain her excitement. From the moment she arrived at the Nitro arena on May 27, 1996, Jolene had been stuck to Dallas' side, trying to use him to find Scott. However, finding Scott was not as easy as Jolene had hoped.
You see, although Jolene knew what night Scott would be returning, she was as clueless as everyone else as to what time or on which segment he'd show up. Jolene tried her damndest to find out, though; she begged Scott, she begged Dallas, and she had bitched to Eric.
No matter how hard she tried, no one would give her an answer. It was better that way, as it made the moment that Jolene and Scott reunited all the more special.
Jolene had been paying very little attention to the match going on outside of the ring as Scott made his way through the World Championship Wrestling crowd. Seeing as she had to announce most of the following matches, Jolene was seated not too far from the ring. The last thing that she had expected at the time was for Scott to show up during the match.
The plan - and the way that everything played out - was for Scott to hide in plain sight amongst the WCW audience and walk down to the ringside area. From ringside, he would approach Jolene and demand that she hand him a microphone, and she would do just that. Then, Scott would head into the ring and deliver one of the most iconic promos in professional wrestling history.
The crowd was under the impression that Scott was still signed by the WWF, which made his debut even more intriguing. As far as they knew, he wasn't Scott Hall, he was Razor Ramon. Scott played into their confusion and let the audience know that he had come to start a war.
But, it wasn't a war between WCW and the WWF. It was a war between WCW and the New World Order.
Now, the fact that Jolene had no idea that Scott would be arriving when he did definitely helped make her reaction all the believable. Although Jolene had been forced to hide away her excitement, she had played the shocked announcer role perfectly.
As soon as Jolene and Scott had laid eyes on one another, joy had filled both of their hearts. Neither one of them had been able to sell their happiness in front of the crowd, but in the brief time in which they shared a glance, they both knew something great was happening in their lives.
After the segment had ended, Scott had 'left' the arena, only to make his way backstage so that he could sit around and shit talk with some of the other members of the staff and roster. However, at that period of time, there were several people backstage that weren't too fond of Scott and the way that he had come back into their company.
That didn't bother Scott, though, because in most cases, he was making more money than they could ever dream of. If they hated Scott, it was of no concern to him.
Jolene hadn't been able to head backstage until near the end of the show, when Gene came out to announce the main event of the evening. The moment that the dark-haired woman had made it to the gorilla position, her green eyes scanned the area, looking for her dear friend. Naturally, she had spent the remainder of her time on that night's show a bit impatient; she just wanted to head to the back as soon as she possibly could.
