Chapter 62: "And then He Walked In"
Scott Hall's POV

- - -

I yawn as I lean my head back against the cold, brick wall of the arena we're filming in for the day. The chilly October air burns my lungs, though I really don't care. It's only around noon, and I'm already done with the day. I'd like to be in bed, but here I am.

Really, I feel quite fine today. I'm doing pretty well mentally for once, and things are going all right for me and Kev and Joli at the moment. I mean, WCW is fuckin' crazy - as always - but it's not really stressful.

Currently, Joli and I are waiting on a big creative meeting to finish up. Kev got added to our creative team maybe, what, a month ago? He's the reason we had to show up to this boring lil' place so early, but it's no big deal. I just want to take a nap.

Joli is standing across from me, puffing away on a cigarette as usual. I really do enjoy spending time alone with her, but it still hurts me every now and then. If I think about it for too long, I find myself longing for the relationship she and Kev have, and that's not good for anyone.

I love Jolene dearly, but I'm not going to come between her and Kev. I may be one selfish prick sometimes, but like hell I'm going to try to hurt them. When it comes to this shitty company, they're all I have. They're my best friends.

"Fuck, it's cold." I chuckle as I shove my hands into my pockets. "It's too early in the year for this shit."

"You know how it goes." Jolene shoots me a grin after exhaling a large cloud of smoke. She then pulls her carton out of her purse and reaches it out towards me. "You know, a cigarette would warm you right on up."

The perfect opportunity to give Joli some hell has arisen, so I have to take it. "I'm sorry, did you just offer me a cigarette? You, Jolene Milford, a woman who is infamous for her love of smoking?" I click my tongue. "I've not had a drop of booze all day, but I've got to be drunk right now."

Of course, Joli's welcoming expression instantly turns to one of playful annoyance. She's so damn cute when she's upset. Joli huffs as she returns her cigarettes to her purse, then she takes a quick puff and blows her smoke in my face. I send her a shit-eating grin.

"You're an asshole, you know that, right?" Joli rolls her eyes at me. "I try to be such a kind, considerate friend, and you get an attitude with me." She sighs dramatically. "Freeze, then. See if I care."

"I might, if it gets to be too much colder." I pull my jacket closer to my body. "Then, when they have to drag my cold body into the ring tonight, it's on you."

Joli shrugs in a nonchalant manner before dropping her cigarette butt to the ground and stomping it out. She starts strutting to the door, saying to me, "I'm going inside, now. If you want to stay out here and freeze your nuts off, then that's all on you,' as she walks.

She's always so quick to make little quips, whether it's to me, or Kev, or anybody else. Lord, Joli is something else.

"I'll have you know, the only reason I went outside in the first place is because you asked me to, girly." I tell Joli as I catch up to her. She tries to hide it, but I plainly see a smile coming to her lips. "Would you have rather gone out there by yourself?"

She hesitates before groaning, "No."

"Then don't get sassy with me." I tease. "I just know how protective you can be over your smokes."

Joli giggles and asks, "Did you really think I was offering one of my smokes?" She shakes her head. "Hell no! I was just saying that smoking would warm you up. I only showed you my carton to try and entice you into buying your own." Next, Joli pats her purse. "I wouldn't even share my cigarettes with Kev."
