Emma's POV.

"Get off the laptop and get dressed!"

"Let me just finish this paragraph." my numb fingers type away on the keyboard.

"Emma come on." Skylar whines.

"Fine." I shut the laptop closed.

"What are you going to wear?" she asks me.

"I have no idea." I shuffle through my drawers and come across the red dress I wore when Josh came over for dinner.

"How about this?" I show her.

"Emma. This is a college party not a wedding. You'll look like a nun in that." I stare at her confused. I love this dress and I already felt exposed enough as it is when I first wore it. So what ever she has in mind for "acceptable party wear" must be completely out of my comfort zone.

"Well I don't have anything else. Besides why do I even need to dress up? The only person I want to impress isn't even here."

"Look Emma," she walks towards me with a black dress in hand.

"Josh isn't here but so what? Don't you want to prove other people wrong? I'm only telling you this for your own benefit. Some people think that you are a rich conservative white girl who has her panties in a twist. I know that you are not uptight and if you show up to that party looking bomb as hell, that'll surely shut them up."

She holds out the dress so I can see. It's a short black-lace dress. It's pretty really but I would never see myself wearing that. But she's right, I think. I do need to make a point. Ever since I got here, I've been getting rude stares.

"Now go change. I'll pick out some shoes for you." I smile at her gratefully and change out of my sweats and t-shirt. I feel guilty for lying to Josh but it's just one night what's the worst that could happen?

I squeeze the dress on and constantly find myself pulling it down. It reaches the top of my thighs. It's just one night I remind myself. I pull my curly hair to the left and walk barefoot out of the bathroom.

"How does it look?" I once again adjust the dress.

"Wow Emma. You look awesome! Now you just need a little make up..." she trails off.

I haven't worn make up in such a long time. It feels foreign to my skin as she applies it gently to my face. Apparently a little make up to her is completely different from my view of little.

"All done! Now put these on!" she hands me cream colored wedges. They're actually really cute and not too high.

"Stunning. Oh my God Josh would absolutely lose it if he saw you right now!" she compliments me.

"Is it wrong that I'm going without him knowing about it?"

"Not at all. If you guys told each other everything your relationship would be boring. I bet you don't know even half of the things he's been doing." she tries to reassure me but fails. That doesn't in the least make me feel better.

"Anyways let me get ready and then we'll go!" she claps.

When she leaves, I finally take a look at myself in the full length mirror attached to the closet door. I look...different. Whatever Skylar did she did a good job because I look one hundred times better than I normally do. My winged eyeliner makes my green eyes pop.

The dress is still uncomfortable but as I take in my look as a whole, I can't help but wonder if I'm making a huge mistake.

Josh's POV.
