An entire year wasted traveling around the world, looking for your soulmate: London, New York, Australia, Brazil, Tokyo. They hadn't been in any of those places.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted on an empty trip.
Sure you got to explore the world, and that was beautiful, but during the whole flight home you couldn't help but feel empty and disappointed.
As soon as you landed, you headed to your favorite coffee shop.
It felt good to be back in Los Angeles, but it also felt lonely.
Maybe I don't have a soulmate, or maybe they aren't alive anymore?
I ordered a Tea to go, and tiredly walked out of the store.
I passed a small tattoo shop.
I wonder if you can get your soulmate tattoo removed?
I shook the idea from my head and went to my apartment.
I had been crying a little from stress and being let down.
I saw a guy in front of my door.
"Hello?" I called to him.
He turned around abruptly, he friend was filming for some reason.
"Do you live here?" He asked.
"Yeah, and Ive had a rough night and I'd really love to go to bed."
He stepped aside.
"Sorry. I've just never seen anyone go in or out of this room. We live next door." He looked me up and down. "I'm Alex Ernst."
"Y/n. I don't mean to be rude but I just spent two years traveling the world looking for my stupid ass soulmate who probably doesn't even exist."
"I don't know, this would be a cute story to tell people how you met your soulmate. You come back home from years of traveling only to find out he was next door the entire time? Sound like a book."
"What makes you think you're my soulmate?" I asked sincerely. "You haven't seen my tattoo."
"I don't think I have to." He smiled.
"You're goofy. Goodnight Alex."
"You're not gonna show me your tattoo?" He asked.
I looked at his friend who was filming.
"Not on camera. And not in front of other people."
I opened my door.
"Night" he whispered.
I closed my door and smiled, shaking my head.
My tea was great and really calmed me down.
That next morning, I woke up and took a shower.
There was a rapid knock on my door when I got out, so I thought it was an emergency and opened it, only in my towel.
I saw some kids running down the hall laughing.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
I tried turning my door knob but it was locked. I hate that.
I sighed and walked over to Alex's door.
I soft, but firmly knocked on the door.
Alex himself opened the door.
"Don't say a word. I got locked out of my apartment and need to borrow some clothes so I can go to maintenance and get the spare."
