"Y/n, put the lipgloss away, this isn't cosmetology class."

"Miss Valerie, in the most respectful way, why does it matter if I put on lipgloss. I'm not even looking in a mirror. I'm still looking at you, listening to you. It's not distracting me."

"It's distracting the other students, ms.y/l/n! Now if you don't stop I will have no choice but to send you to detention."

"What? I was being respectful, why are you threatening me with-"

"Detention. Saturday. Now let's get on with the lesson."

"No, you know what. Apparently I'm getting detention either way, so fuck being respectful. You have always hated me and given me low grades and I want to know why." I stood up.

"You care far too much about your appearance to ever actually learn anything. Those grades are the grades you've earned." She said calmly. "Now be silent or I'm giving you another detention."

In detention the following Saturday, I was the last to arrive, choosing to sit next to Allison.

"If you sit there I'll bite you." She said darkly.

"How do you know I'm not into that." I gave a sarcastic smile and she held her straight face, putting her head down.

Hell yeah. I hope she doesn't actually bite me.

I looked at the four other people in the room. Bender, Claire, Andrew, and Brian.

I've talked to all of them, Claire and Andrew the most.

"What are you in here for blondie?" Bender asked.

"Fucking lip gloss." I stated without looking back at him.

"What did you throw it at someone? A teacher?"

"I put it on during Mrs.Valentine's class. God forbid I try to look nice."

"Maybe you should try harder." He joked. I knew he was joking, that's how he is. I wasn't going to get offended by it.

"I-I think she looks remarkable." Brian pitched in.

I looked over at him, making eye contact and getting butterflies in my stomach.

"It's nerds like you who fill her ego." Andrew laughed.

"Oh Andrew, baby I know you're not talking right now. Because didn't You walk over to me in the library last week asking to-"

"Okay okay!" He interrupted.

"Besides. Ive never been called remarkable before. Pretty, hot, cute yeah. But remarkable?" I smiled with a blush. I looked at Brian and he was staring at his paper smiling too.

The principal came in and told us to write an essay. After he told us the rules and shit, he left.

I stood up and walked over and sat next to Brian.

"Hi." I gave him a small smile.

"H-hi." He stuttered.

"Thank you for the compliment earlier."

"You're welcome."

"Are you writing the paper?"

"Yeah. I don't want to get in trouble."

"You're in detention. You're already in trouble. What did you even do? You seem innocent enough."

"Don't worry about it." He got serious and started writing his essay.

"Sorry. I didn't think it would be a big deal-"

"Yeah, no it's fine." He said with a hint of sadness that was barely traceable.
