Chapter 56, When masks fall

/ First Person Protagonist POV / 

No, no, no, no! I yelled in my mind. I was so close! And now I blew my cover. I tried kicking and twisting to free myself from the grip of the person, but they were quite strong and knew what they were doing. I heard the door lock, and my breathing accelerated. I knew someone had discovered who I really was, I knew I was too obvious in front of Hux! And of course Mando was smart enough to see something was off! I lamented, assuming the man that had captured me was the red haired general or the Mandalorian Bounty Hunter I had met earlier today.

The room was dark, and I couldn't see who my abductor was, but I knew it was someone tall, which didn't help, because almost everyone I knew was tall. I'm not going down like this. Think y/n Come on... Think of something, quick! I quickly shook my mask off and bit the person's hand. My plan worked and they quickly removed their hand from my mouth and loosened the grip on my arms. I took the chance to push kick them in the torso and free myself completely. They stumbled back a couple steps, even if I had hit them with almost all my might. Damn. I'm kinda' weak. I lamented as I placed my hood that had fallen over back into place. 

The attacker's silhouette became more visible, almost towering over me, and I stumbled back a couple steps. Oh no. Oh no, no, no. I did not just kick an angry Mandalorian bounty hunter or a First Order General. I mentally analyzed the situation. Why am I always so good at finding trouble?!

The man paced towards me, and I walked back even more, but I had hit the wall of the room. Dammit. I'm trapped. Suddenly, the two gloved hands cupped my face as cold lips crashed onto mine. I was so startled I didn't have time to act and push him back, but then I remembered. The lips kissing mine were all too familiar: cold yet soft. And just now did the strong aroma of chestnut wood and ocean breeze start to fill my lungs. Kylo... Without hesitating, I wrapped my arms around his neck and tangled my fingers into his curly hair. There was no doubt: I was in the arms of the man I loved yet feared to encounter.

He broke off the kiss and turned on the lights, that only lit the room dimly, and I contemplated his beautiful features. " Kyl-" I started whispering when he placed his index finger on my lips and placed his other hand at my waist. " Y/n." He said in an emotionless tone. " Did you think I wouldn't feel your presence in The Finalizer the second you stepped foot on the ship as you infiltrated it dressed as a bounty hunter?" He asked. " What did you even do to the real Crimson Hunter?"

I blushed and looked away: he would recognize my presence between thousands of others... Was the only thing that dwelled in my mind. " I- I didn't infiltrate." I muttered. " I am the Crimson Hunter." Kylo's face backed away from mine, and I could see the surprise in his eyes. " Oh." Was all he said.

We both remained silent for countless moments, his hands at my waist and lower back, and mine resting on his chest. I stared into his beautiful chestnut eyes I had yearned to contemplate for weeks, and he stared profusely into my e/c ones. " Hi." I said, smiling meekly and breaking the silence. 

Kylo didn't respond, instead, he pulled me into a tight caress, digging his face in between my neck and shoulder like he usually did. I remained quiet as well, and leaned my head against his as I detangled my fingers from his black hair. " Why did you leave me... again?" He whispered as he tightened the hug. 

Kylo's tone sounded so vulnerable, and I could feel he wanted to curl up on the ground. I kneeled down and so did he, and I nestled myself into his strong arms, with his long cape covering me up as he leaned his back against the cold wall. I clung to his arm and closed my eyes. " I'm sorry." I muttered. " I didn't have a choice. " Kylo lifted his head and looked at me, I did the same. " Didn't have a choice?" He repeated, his voice shaking. " Rey. She was there." I whispered as I leaned my head on his chest, listening to his heart beat.

" Didn't you tell the whole Resistance not to come back for you?" Kylo insisted. " I- I would've ran to you without hesitation, Kylo. I would always choose you." I replied as I closed my eyes again. Kylo's head rested atop of mine, and he exhaled deeply, as if his stress was being relieved off his shoulders. " I looked for you everywhere." He muttered. 

I didn't reply: I felt so guilty. The culpability of Kylo desperately searching for me for over a month, while I purposely hid from the First Order, meaning I hid from him, was consuming me. " I didn't know if it was safe to come back..." I said, realizing how selfish I had been. " It's ridiculous. I should've never left, and I-" " No. Do not blame yourself." Kylo said, interrupting me. " You did the... right thing."

" I missed you, Kylo Ren..." I whispered doubtfully, not knowing if I was in any position to say that. Come on y/n, trust yourself. He kissed you minutes ago. Kylo laid a soft kiss on my forehead and cupped one of my cheeks with his gloved hand. " I missed you too, y/n. You have no idea what your absence does to me." He muttered. " I thought about you every day, you know? You invaded my thoughts daily and nightly. I wanted to come back every day. I hated it there." I replied. I noticed me and Kylo had entered a zone of honesty and no transparency in our words, and I really liked that. 

Kylo hugged me tightly before standing up. Oh c'mon. I lamented as he helped me up. He headed for the door of the room, unlocking it. " Where are you going?" I asked, a little saddened. 

" I've got a mass hunt to cancel." He said as he gave me the sweet expression in his eyes he rarely showed.

I had actually planned it being Mando that takes a hold of you, but then I was like: MMMMMM NO. I NEED SOME KYLO HERE.
