Season Three, Episode Twelve
"Bloody hell, no need to yank me round." I groaned as the cuffs seemed to tighten on my wrists as the guy led me through the 5-4 precinct. "It's my squad."
I could feel the eyes of everyone as I was led through. All of these people, those that I had gained the respect of, and could trust. I felt my heart constrict, and I tried to take some deep breaths. Kenai was prancing alongside the pair of us, as if she had no care in the world. My phone started to ring from the officers pocket, he was quick to click it off.
"Sargent Gormley?" The officer spoke, pulling me to a stop. I didn't look up, instead I paid close attention to the shoes in front of me. Gormley's joined the circle, and Danny's.
"Officer, you know he's one of mine?" Gormley's voice had an edge to it, and I was glad that he was at least a little bit on my side. I could feel the officer nod, but spoke before he did.
"They found coke in my car."
"Haha, funny J." Danny tried to sound sarcastic, but I could hear the bit of worry in his voice. "It's a little late for April Fools Day."
I wished it was a joke, and as I slowly looked up at Danny and Gormley I could see the worry in the both of their eyes.
"911 got an anonymous tip. I pulled him over, found the drugs. IA has been notified and will be here shortly." The officer readjusted my arm in his hands, before stepping around me and passing my gun, shield and phone over to Gormley. Danny reached for Kenai's leash, but Gormley beat him to it. A look was shared between them, before they turned back to the officer and I.
"We'll take it from here Officer." Danny was trying to stay call, but I could hear the frustration in his voice. The officer passes me over, and Danny leads me through the precinct. "I'm not putting you in a cell. I'm putting you in the box."
"I'll call your Union delegate." Gormley offered, and I didn't want to protest. I watched as he led Kenai away, knowing that I probably wouldn't see her for a while.
Danny took me the rest of the way to the box. The door clicked shut behind us, and he uncuffed my hands, before moving quickly to close the blinds. I just looked at the floor, rubbing my wrists that had turned slightly red.
"What the hell J." It wasn't a question, just a statement.
"I don't know Danny." I repeated it again, before looking up suddenly, feeling my face go pale. "Jameson."
Danny looked confused, "No I'm Danny."
"No no, I need you to call him, we were on the phone when I was pulled over. He told me to be safe, we were going to get drinks." I pressed a hand to my face, before moving it to the back of my neck.
"I'll call him Jett." He motioned for me to take a seat, and I sighed as I did, relaxing into the seat and propping my head up on my hands. Danny sat across from me.
"You don't have to wait Danny." I looked up at him.
"Like hell I don't." It got quiet between the pair of us, and it stayed quiet for a long time.
A knock sounded on the door, and in stepped the Union rep, and the Internal Affairs investigator. It was someone I had met before, but his name slipped my mind. I didn't stand, but Danny did.
The Lieutenant took the seat across from me, my union rep sitting next to me. Everyone introduced themselves, and I just sat still.
"Detective Reagan, you can leave."
I could tell Danny wanted to protest, but I gave him a look and he didn't.
I answered every question asked of me, enough to give them what they wanted, but not enough to contradict myself. I wished more than anything that this wasn't happening, but I couldn't change the fact that it was.
It took hours, and the longer I sat there the more worried I became.
I breathed in and out, restating the entire story for the second time, before growing as excited as I could about being let out on bail. I could provide that, it was hefty, but I knew that I was innocent, and I knew that this little bit of money would be worth it if it got me out of this side of the interrogation table.
"You'll be on modified duty until the case is solved." We all stood, and I nodded as the Lieutenant continued. "Your K-9, Kenai, will not be allowed to leave the precinct with you. Your partner, Detective Reagan, will be allowed to use your dog. Do you understand everything I'm saying?"
I was bleary eyed, and tired, but I nodded either way.
The Union Rep and Lieutenant left the box first, and I followed a second later. I was surprised to find Danny waiting outside, but I was glad for it when I remembered that I didn't have my car.
"Danny." He moved towards me quickly, wrapping his arms around me in the form of a comforting hug. When he pulled back, he handed my phone to me. I tried to click it on, but found it dead. The officers and detectives in the precinct were all looking at me, and I felt wrong. "Can we go?" My voice cracked, though I tried to keep it steady.
"'Course, come on." He threw an arm over my shoulder, leading the way to the back door of the precinct. I held the door open for a second later than necessary, so used to having Kenai come with us.
The night air was cold, and my breath formed mist in the air. Danny climbed in the front seat, and I followed, climbing into the passenger seat. The drive was mostly silent, except for the sighs that Danny kept letting out every few minutes.
"Ask." I said that one word, and Danny threw a glance my way.
"Who could've done it?"
"Anyone. You've seen who I've collared, any of them." I sighed, and before Danny could ask anything else we were pulling to a stop. I assumed he was taking me home, but when I looked out the window, I saw the Reagan household and turned to face Danny. "I thought you were taking me home?"
"I did." He said it with a smile, and I sighed before climbing out the car.
He led the way up the drive, and I couldn't help but grow worried with every step I took. "Hello?" Danny's voice echoed through the house, and I worried for a moment that everyone was asleep, and then the sound of a half dozen chairs scraping reached my ears. I followed behind Danny slowly, unsure what to do or say as the family came around the corner.
"Jett." Jameson's voice made me look up, and I smiled at him in a sad sort of way. He ran at me, and I stepped forward as I wrapped my arms around him. His breath was heavy in my ear, and I realized how nervous all of this made him.
"I'm okay, it's okay." I muttered, holding Jameson close to me. I could see the family over his shoulder, and I smiled at them all, a little smile, a worried smile. Jameson leaned back, looking up at me with red eyes. I leaned down, pressing a kiss to his lips before hugging him again.
"Let's go home babe." His voice was quiet, and I nodded.
"Thank you Danny. Thank you everyone." I looked at them all with one arm around Jameson's shoulder before thanking them again.
Jameson and I left together, hand in hand, with a bit more on our minds than the night originally started.
