Episode Eighteen
I didn't sleep a wink.
I went over every piece of information for the El Mal gang. Every location, every known warehouse, every wire that we had tapped. Nothing came up. At seven in the morning the SOCO team sent over the specs for the Hummer that I had requested, and all of my attention turned to that.
I've never been a big car person, I've never even owned one, but Jameson has always loved cars. Whenever he gets the chance he's going on about the car that he's working on, and I help with the parts I know, but the strange thing about the Hummer is just how much money the owner put into it. At least 50 thousand pounds, and only a few places would actually do this kind of thing because of the sheer cost of it all.
By the time Danny showed up around eight I had already found the garage that did all the work on the car. I met Danny out in the parking lot with a cup of coffee for him and the keys to the unmarked police car that we usually drove. Danny didn't really question it. He accepted the keys and coffee, and we both climbed into the car driving through the streets of New York without much communication for the first few minutes.
"You alright?" Danny's voice broke the silence once we reached 67th street.
I just nodded, before humming a yes when I realized he couldn't see my nod.
"You gonna explain where we're going?" I smiled despite myself, before readjusting so I faced more towards him.
"A few hours ago the SOCO people sent me the information for the Hummer, and it's entirely done up. Every bob and bit it could have, and I called around, and the ga-rage we are heading to is the only one in all of New York that could have done it up as much as it is." Danny nodded along to my words, continuing to drive through the streets.
By the time we reached the ga-rage Danny was all caught up on everything that I had found, and peeved. Danny nearly took out a lamp post as we pulled into the parking lot, slamming the door of the car shut as he went. I let Kenai off-leash, patting my leg and muttering 'talon' as I followed Danny into the ga-rage. I lifted my shield up, showing it to the few workers inside. Danny pointed at one man, and that one in particular man looked nervous, starting to turn away and walk quickly in the other direction. Danny rushed after him, grabbing him by the collar and slamming the man up against a table.
"Right, so who customized this car mate?" I hold the photo up, gauging the guys reaction once he looked at it. He definitely recognized it, but shook his head trying to pull out of Danny's hold.
"Never seen that car before in my life!" He wiggles around a bit, "I gotsta get back to work let me go."
"Bullshit." Danny readjusts, hitting the guy on the side of the head, before taking the picture from me and shoving it in the guys face. "Who tricked out the car?"
I took a step back, looking around the ga-rage and giving Danny his space with the man. His temper was not something that I wanted to even try to get in between, so I would let him handle getting any information from the man by himself. There was an office in the back, and with the vague shouting from Danny and the man echoing as I walked in, I was actually surprised at the cleanliness of the actual office.
Everything was organized, which is better for me I suppose. I flipped through the filling cabinets along the wall, looking across every 'S' that was in there. I moved along, looking under 'M' and even trying 'E', all of which led to a dead end. Just as I was about to give up and move on, Danny shouted loudly.
"I got an address Jett, get out here!" I ran quickly, whistling for Kenai as I went. I yanked open the door to the car, letting Kenai in first before climbing in the front. Danny was out of the parking space in a flash, turning on the lights and nearly taking out the same light post as before. "It's some dingy apartment on west 128th, I arrested some guys on drug chargers a few years ago." I could hear the frustration in his voice, "I swear if he's lying, I'll come back and arrest him."
I nodded, pulling my phone out and relaying all the information to ESU and asking for a team to be there. When we rolled up Danny popped the trunk, grabbing all three of the vests as I climbed out. I accepted mine from him, pulling it on as I Kenai hopped out of the back seat. She sat still for hers, and some part of me didn't want to put it on her. I've always feared these sort of raids, the unplanned kind, the kind where we have no idea what we are walking into.
I pulled it on her nonetheless, watching as Danny commanded the raid team easily. We all lined up, and I took a deep breath before removing my weapon from my holster. Danny's hand touched my shoulder, reassuring me that he was there, before I pushed on. I let the team knock the door in, before rushing through the opening and shouting the usual 'Police!' The team split as we ran through the house, I could hear running upstairs, and I was quick to sprint up them. Pointing my weapon at the man, "Hands up!" He complied easily, throwing his hands into the air, and I ran at him, slamming his front against the wall and pulling a pair of handcuffs out. "Where is Jameson Reagan?" He didn't reply, and I spun him around slamming his back against the wall and asking again.
In the man's panic he threw a glance down the hall, and I turned, "You stay put wanker." I shouted as I ran, knocking every door open as I went, each room was empty, and just as I reached the last it opened before I could reach it. The door smacked into me, and I lifted my gun, pointing it at the man. He moved quickly, quicker than I expected, his hand wrapped around my gun. Spinning it out of my grasp and knocking it away from the pair of us, I threw a punch. My knuckles just barely scrapped the guys cheek, he back away, gearing up for another punch but Kenai stopped him. She came barreling down the hallway, tackling the man to the ground.
He screams, and I hurried to grab my gun from its spot on the floor. I put it back into my holster, grabbing a zip-tie as I do, moving to grab the man's hands and clipping them behind his back. "Kenai reste sur place." I mutter, and she sits, growling at the man''s every move. I open the door to the room, almost crying allowed at the curled up form of Jameson in the corner.
I run towards him, forgetting everything as I pull him close to me. "Jameson," I breath out, holding him at arms length as I look him over. I reach forward, slowly peeling the duct tape off of his mouth and muttering my apologies at the winces he gives when it pulls his skin just a bit to much. "I found him!" I shout, standing up slowly and pulling him up with me. Jameson groans lightly as I pull him, I start on the tape wrapped around his hands, pulling it off quickly and pulling his arms around me. "Jameson, I'm so sorry." He shook his head, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist. I buried my head into his shoulder, muttering how sorry I was over and over again.
Footsteps approached and I reacted quickly, unwrapping my arms from Jameson and turning to face the door. I pushed him behind me, pulling my gun out of my holster and readying myself for whoever came through. I let out a sigh of relief when Danny comes through, he holds his hands up a bit, and I lower my weapon, tucking it back into my holster. Danny runs towards Jameson, hugging his brother tightly.
I could hear him asking if he had been hurt, and I took a deep breath when the answer came back as a negative. I flipped my wrist over, checking the time, and reacting quickly. "Danny, Danny!" He turned, and I continued, "If I don't get there now they'll let him off."
He nodded, and I smiled at Jameson, he returned the smile, much to my delight. I held my hand out, and he took it, letting me pull him close. I helped him out of the room and he pat Kenai, muttering about her being a good dog. I smiled at the interaction, before continuing to lead the way downstairs.
Jameson rested his head on my shoulder as we walked, and I smiled, happy for his safety. I helped him into the back of the ambulance that was waiting, and no matter how many times he insisted he was alright, I still made sure that he was in, and that they would take him to the hospital. I kissed him goodbye, a bold move, but one that I wanted to do. He held the back of my neck as I did.
I waited for the ambulance to pull off, before hurrying to Danny. He drove, racing through the streets to the courthouse.
Time to out this tosser in prison for good.
