Season Two, Episode One
The kitchen was empty when I walked in, and I busied myself with tossing the baked Alaska into the freezer to help it with its rigidity, before trying to find a spoon to stir my meringue with. I start snooping through the drawers, and I had nearly checked them all before a voice sounded from behind me.
"Can I help you find whatever it is?" I spun around, startled, before relaxing when I saw that it was Linda. I smiled.
"Hullo Linda, I was searching for a spoon, but it seems," I dramatically shut the drawer next to me, "I am unable to find one."
She walks around the island, reaching into the one drawer I hadn't looked in, "Do you need a shovel or a spoon?"
I tilted my head to the side, "What's the difference?" She laughed before explaining that one was just a bit bigger, I asked for that one. Linda passes it over, and I remove the saran wrap covering the top before starting to stir it up just a bit. Linda suddenly appears beside me, she sticks her finger into the bowl and licks it.
"I think this is the best meringue I've ever had." I smiled, telling her thank you, and that she'd have to wait to see what I had made. Everyone arrived in a large group after that, and I told them that I'd be in in a moment, before spreading the meringue across the top of the baked Alaska and setting it into the over on a drastically low temperature. It'd need to be taken out in a half hour, but I had a feeling we'd be done by then.
When I walked into the dining room Danny teased about me taking to long and him being starving. "Sorry sorry, I had to put the dessert into the oven." I walk around the table, taking a seat in my usual spot between Jameson and Nicki. I kiss Jameson's cheek as I sit down, pulling my chair underneath me a bit more as everyone starts to hold hands. Henry is the one to say grace, before we all dig in. The room is full of a flurry of movement, as everyone passes around the bowls and plates of food as everyone asks.
"So Frank," I started as I scooped a little bit of potato on my plate, "What did the mayor have to say?"
I heard a rather loud clink of silverware hitting a plate, and when I looked up Erin was looking at me with a confused look, not that she look terribly confused, just slightly. "What? I do know the usual customs of Police Commissioners." She shook her head, smiling slightly as she looked back down at her plate.
"The mayor asked me to stay on." Frank grimaced as he said it, and Nicki was quick to say how good it was for him. Everyone else went around the table, congratulating him, I was the last.
"That's brilliant Frank, congratulations." I took a bite of my potatoes, reaching underneath the table and grabbing Jameson's hand. He threw a glance at me, squeezing my hand slightly, and smiling down at his plate.
"Just hold on a minute, I told him I'd give him my answer on Monday morning."
"Ah, makin' him wait." Danny nodded, pointed at his dad his fork. "Smart, but at the same time, maybe you shouldn't mess with the new mayor?"
"He needs you more than you need him." Henry leaned back, tapping the table with his hand as he spoke.
"Well, that sounds rather like a negotiation statement." I mumbled, taking another bite of my food.
"No, but it's a decision that affects the whole family, so I thought I'd give you all a chance to weigh in." Frank copied his father, leaning back in his seat and placing a hand on the table. "There are two of you," he paused, looking at me. "Three of you, maybe even four, who like it or not have your old man as their ultimate boss."
