Season Three, Episode Twenty-Three
Danny felt the same as I did about Nona and not wanting her to be convicted for this crime, which is why neither of us took a break once we arrived at the precinct with her in tow.
It was nearing one a.m. and Danny had barely let up in the grilling of Nona Palmeira.
"What are you offering me?" Nona seemed ready to crack, and I hoped more than anything that she would (I would like to get some sleep but coffee would do fine for now).
"I am offering you the same thing I offered you as a kid." Danny sighed in a sad way, "I'm going to do everything in my power to see to it that you can have a fair shot at a normal life."
I leaned forward, smiling in a comforting way as Nona looked at me. "Danny is aware that he failed the first time, but we both don't want to see you thrown into the judicial system and to fend for yourself." I sighed, "Give us something that we can use, or we can't help anymore."
Nona seemed to considered it for less than a moment, before nodding. "Okay."
And then we had everything we needed, she started to talk and didn't stop for what seemed like hours. I called Frank at three a.m., offering everything that we had and he said he would take it from there.
I wasn't sure what exactly that meant, but I had a rather strong feeling it meant something flashy and for the benefit of the public. Frank had a way of doing that when he felt the need, or felt as though to much had been injured in the public eye.
I felt like I was dozing off, and I was quick to stand and make a cup of coffee for myself. I dialed Jameson's number as the coffee pot started to brew, leaning against the counter top with the phone against my ear.
"Hello?" Jameson's voice was scratchy and heavy with sleep and I sighed as I spoke.
"I'm sorry for waking you my love, I can call later?"
"No, no, i's alright." His voice slurred a bit, and I could hear the bed creaking as he sat up. "You've got news, or you wouldn't be calling?" Jameson was right, he was always right.
"I do, we've got what we need to get Santana love, and Frank's got something in the works." I smiled, pouring myself a cup of coffee and adding milk and sugar. "Something big, and flashy, with everything going on and everything that's happened around the Bitterman Houses."
Jameson hummed in response, and it was silent for a minute. "Justice for Vinny." It was all he said, and I nodded even though he couldn't see me.
"I don't think I'm going to be able to leave until after all of this goes down." I made my way to my desk with my coffee, "I'm sorry my love."
"Don't apologize." He spoke quickly, before taking a moment to pause and think about what he was trying to say. "I'm happy to share you with my dad as long as I'm able to get you Sunday night."
I had a bit of a panic as I took a seat at my desk, trying to think of the significance of what Sunday night was in Jameson's and I's relationship. I didn't have to think for long, because he was speaking again in a tired drowl.
"It's the anniversary of when we got together, three years."
"God I can't believe it," I muttered, carding a hand through my hair as I leaned back. I didn't mean to forget, I knew that I had it written somewhere, we had celebrated our anniversary twice before, but it seemed to sneak up on me this time.
Jameson sighed, "Honestly me neither. I didn't think I'd ever meet someone like you."
"I love you." Was my reply, wishing I was with him rather than sitting in an uncomfortable chair at the precinct.
"I love you too." He replied, sighing in a happy way.
Danny started towards my desk, and I spoke to Jameson in an apologetic way. "I've got to go."
"Stay safe, call me after all of this?" He asked.
I nodded as I replied, "I will."
"Was that my brother?" Danny asked, and I just nodded, setting my phone on the edge of the desk and looking up at him.
"What 'ave we got?" I hoped for a plan, and at the way his face lit up told me that there was one.
"A raid, and you and I are leading it." Danny looked proud about it. "There's someone on the way to get all the necessary warrants, and then we're good to go."
I nodded, "What time? What are our limits?"
"They'll be almost a hundred of us, at oh-six-hundred. We're arresting everyone with a warrant on them or in connection to a crime." I smiled at his response, standing with a nod and starting to stretch out. Kenai followed, stretching herself against the concrete.
"Come on then." I smiled, starting towards the back door.
There was still a half our or so till we were needed, but I didn't want to risk being late or anything like that. Danny followed me, and I sighed as I stepped through the door.
There was a tension in the early morning air, like all of New York was holding it's breath in response to what we were about to do. I sent a prayer upwards, asking Him with a capital 'H' to keep an eye on everyone that was about to be a part of this.
"Are you ready?" Danny asked across the top of the car, I nodded, putting my hand on the door handle.
"As I'll ever be."
