Things get Even Worse

I stood in front of my door apprehensively, Ben and Jerry standing next to me. Inoichi leaned against the wall, a somber look on his face.

"You want to be alone right?" Ben asked. I nodded before knocking on the door, Ben and Jerry disappearing. My mom opened the door.

"Oh, hi sweetie- Oh my gosh are you okay!?" She immediately pulled me inside after seeing the black eye Naruto had given me, "Did this happen in your fight?"

"Yeah... it did." I tried to keep my voice steady as my dad walked into the room.

"Oh... wow, did you win?" he asked, although he clearly knew the answer. My mom shot him a nasty look.

"Don't tease her right now." she reprimanded, "Are you okay, baby? You don't look like you're feeling well."

"Well..." I felt my lip begin to quiver, and I covered my mouth, "No, actually. I'm not okay."

"Oh... sweetheart." My mom pulled me into a hug, "Do you want to talk about it?"

I gave a silent nod and my mom shepherded me into the living room. My dad sat down at my other side.

"What's the matter?" My dad rubbed my back comfortingly, "You upset about how the fight went?"

"Y-yeah..." I choked out as I began to sob, "I was really thinking I was going to win... but I messed up..."

"Aw, baby," My mom held me to her chest, "Winning isn't what was important right? You can still become a chunin."

"Yeah, but... It would've been better if I had won." I sniffed.

"Sweetheart, the thing about losing is that we learn from it." My dad sighed, "When I was your age, I had no idea what type of job I wanted to have. I mean... I tried everything. Mechanics, medical, I even tried to be a shinobi! I failed every time."

I looked at my father, curious to see where he was going with this.

"While I'm not saying that this one mistake means you're not cut out to be a kunoichi, I'd never even dare to think that, I am saying that every failure has a lesson behind it. For me, that lesson was to pursue what made me happy. All of those jobs I tried to get for the prestige or the money or my parents' praise, but I realized when I started gardening as a hobby that not only was I good at it but I loved it, and because of that realization I also met your mom." He smiled warmly at me, "Every step in our life offers us a lesson, and whether that step is a step up or a step down depends on how we use that lesson."

I gazed at my father. Why did he have to make this so hard for me? More tears began to well as another sob shook me.

"Th-thank you..." I cried.

"For what baby?" My dad let out a nervous chuckle.

"For everything you've ever given me." I wiped at my eyes furiously. I needed to say all of this while I had the time, "The advice, the amazing food, the amazing life and opportunities. I couldn't be where I am now without your support, and I just love you so much."

"We love you too, Sakura." My mom rubbed my shoulder, "But where is all this coming from? Is the fight really all that's bothering you?"

"You can tell us okay?" My dad wrapped his arms around both of us, "You can tell us anything."

I heard the front door open, striking cold fear straight through my core.

"I... I just..." I heard the footsteps... oh god... it was actually going to happen to me again, "I'm going to miss you so much." This hurt so much.
