Sakura blossoms danced gracefully in the air, swirling around one another as a light breeze careless plucked them from the thin branches of the trees. The pale blue of the sky provided a warm light, dappling the ground below with dazzling spots of brightness.
I twirled in place the pale sundress I was wearing twirling away from my legs.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself." A smooth, teasing voice said from behind me, "I never took you as one to quietly immerse in nature."
I turned to see Kakashi standing down the road, "Well, Kakashi~" I purred, "There's always more to a person than the mask they show others. You should know that better than anyone."
Even from behind his mask I could see the amused smile, "What a clever analogy. Once again you've made your point to me." He took a few steps towards me, "You're always full of surprises."
I took a step towards him, "Despite all I know about you, you also manage to surprise me." My tone was quieter, longing.
Another step, "Really?" his voice was laced with intrigue.
"That's the nature of people I suppose." I hummed, itching to fully close the gap between us, "Everyone puts on a mask for the world to see."
"Ah, a metaphor." he was so tantalizingly close, "Yes, even behind the physical mask I wear there is yet another one-"
"Not the other mask you wear under that one?" I teased.
"Oh, there's more yet." he explained, tone similar to one who was mocking a salesperson, "Another one, not physical, but just as concealing."
"Aren't they though?" We were standing in front of each other now. I supposed I must have been older because the height between us didn't seem as intense as it did normally.
"Perhaps I will remove my mask if you could do the same..." he murmured, leaning down ever so slightly.
"I think I could do that." I murmured back.
My eyes opened to the brightness of morning. That was a dream. Goddammit.
I let out a huff, angry at waking up just before things became interesting. Was that just a normal dream then? I suppose it was. Since when did I have normal dreams? I wasn't going to complain though; that was wonderful before it ended.
I sat up, smelling the familiar enticement of breakfast. No time to dwell on it I guess; it was an impossibility anyways.
I came down the stairs to see Sasuke at the stove, and, surprisingly enough, Gaara at the table.
"What drew you out of your cave?" I teasingly asked, sitting down next to him.
He gave me a look that was almost a pout, "I just thought that maybe I should start eating breakfast down here now."
"That's great!" I threw my arms around him enthusiastically, "You're becoming part of the family!"
He tensed at the sudden contact before relaxing, "Are you really that happy about it?"
"Of course!" I gasped, "I love seeing you interacting with people!" I booped him on the nose, "You're starting to come out of your shell and it's exciting!"
He gave a rare, slight smile, "Alright then, I'll eat my meals here for now on."
I gave him a supportive squeeze before turning to the plate that Sasuke had just set before me, "That smells amazing!" I gushed.
Sasuke rolled his eyes, "It's just eggs and bacon."
"It's good smelling eggs and bacon!" I shot back.
