"Sasuke, is the house clean?" I called as I tended to the oven. Any minute now the cake would be baked and ready to be frosted.
"Yes! For the last time, yes!" I heard him shout from the living room.
"It's not my fault I live in a house of icky, messy boys!" I teased.
Sasuke poked his head into the kitchen, "The messiest person here is by far you."
I let out an offended gasp, "Is that anyway to talk to your mother!?"
"If anyone's the mom here, it's Ben." Sasuke deadpanned, not noticing that said ANBU agent was right behind him. Ben paused in place, and I could practically see the outrage under his mask. Sasuke noticed me staring behind him and glanced back, letting out a yelp and jumping to the side, 'H-Hey! I'm not saying you're like a girl or whatever!" he defended, "It's just a joke!"
Jerry threw an arm around Ben's shoulders, quickly dissolving the oppressive mood around his teammate, "C'mon, you do so much panic cleaning, you're the one who keeps the peace, and you can even do laundry." he suddenly let out a gasp, "Does that mean I'm the dad?"
"No." Ben answered.
"Yes!" I asserted ove Ben's refutation, "You're the fun one who makes the jokes and helps me with my sealing homework. That sounds about right." Sasuke nodded in approval.
"Ugh, forget it." Ben held up his hands in defeat and turned to go back to the kitchen table.
A ding from the oven regained my attention, and I pulled out the finished cake to begin frosting. Gaara curiously peered into the room, seeming unwilling to fully join us.
"Stop being a weirdo." Sasuke scoffed. Gaara glared at him, but stepped fully into the kitchen and to the opposite side of the counter from me.
"Did you need something?" I asked, trying to concentrate on my cake.
"Not particularly." he mumbled, "How many people are going to be at the party?"
"Not including us? Around... six." I contemplated, noticing the way Gaara's eyes widened in mild fear.
"What are you even worried about?" Sasuke scrutinized him, "It's not like we're going to pack a bunch of freaks in here," he paused, "At least... not a bunch of strangers."
"I suppose I just don't know how to carry myself in that kind of environment." Gaara muttered, "What's the occasion again?"
"My birthday!" I chirped, taking a step back to assess my progress.
"Oh," Gaara nodded uncertainly, "'Happy Birthday'.'' that caught me off guard. I shot him a surprised glance, causing his brow to furrow, "That is what people say isn't it?"
"Have you never had a birthday before?" Sasuke glared at Gaara in confusion.
"No." Gaara glared back. Sasuke's glare lost it's force, him casting a genuinely bewildered look my direction.
"Well, when it is your birthday, we can celebrate!" I beamed at Gaara, earning a slight blush and a mumbled 'okay' from the boy.
"This party might be good for you," Sasuke shrugged, "Since you stay locked in all day."
"What I do with my free time is none of your business." Gaara pouted.
"Now, now boys." Ben called from the table, "Let's play nice for the lady's birthday, okay?"
"Yes, I hope your party goes well, Princess." Jerry leaned against the counter next to me.
"Aw, thanks!" I blushed a little as I grinned. These boys were doing a lot to lift my mood and they didn't even know it. I attempted to distract myself from just how fucking much I missed Hina by keeping myself busy, and the light banter in room was the last piece of the puzzle to putting me in a good party mood.
