I was honestly feeling pretty good about myself as I walked to Neji's apartment. Things have been looking up for a lot of people, and things were finally seeming to go back to normal. That and the date with Ino was pretty fucking cool. I mean, yeah it wasn't perfect, but it definitely could've gone a lot worse.
I looked down to make sure Akamaru was still by my side, rascal loved to run off sometimes and if I didn't always have an eye on him he'd be gone in a second. I reached the street of their apartment.
"What do ya think, buddy?" I looked down to Akamaru, "Front door?"
Akamaru shook his head.
"You're right, that's not fun enough." I smirked.
I ran around back, easily climbing over the wall of the space that served as their backyard. I reached down to pull Akamaru over, and then found the window next to their backdoor. Perfect! They left the curtains open.
I leaned against the window sill and peered in. They should be expecting me, so they'll be in the living room soon enough.
I propped my head against my hand casually as I waited, and soon enough Neji walked into view, staring down at the book in his hands. I couldn't help but smile; he wasn't wearing that stupid headband anymore.
I waited patiently as Neji stood there, reading. His brow furrowed after a minute, and he looked to the front door, then leaning to the side to look out the front window. He scoffed. I knew he was thinking 'Where is he?'. I smirked to myself. Akamaru whined impatiently, and I gave him a dismissive wave, he'd notice soon enough. As if on cue, Neji let out a sigh and turned around, probably to passively look out the back window.
I gave him a wave and he leapt back. I could hear his muffled shout through the glass as he fell backwards. Hanabi ran into the room, glaring out the window until she saw me, glare turning into a wide grin. She ran over to the back door to open it.
"Hey, kiddo, how're ya-" I was interrupted as she immediately swung at me.
"Off our property, intruder!" she declared with a smile, charging me.
I jumped to the side, "Whoa! Right into it, huh?"
She swung at me with her right, and I raised an arm to block her. She grinned confidently, and I could tell she was going to do a chakra attack I swiftly dropped my blocking arm and instead moved to grab her by the wrist, yanking her around to put her in a choke hold.
"Love the spirit kid!" I laughed as she looked up at me with a pout.
The door opened again and Neji walked out with an almost fatherly look of disapproval, "I hope you're pleased with yourself." he folded his arms over his chest.
"Oh, yes, very." I grinned back, eliciting an eye roll from him.
"So, are we sparring today?" he asked, looking down at Hanabi who was also grinning at him.
"Sorta," I decided, "I kinda think she needs to just work on throwing punches and kicks and stuff. Y'know, without chakra?"
Neji nodded, "I take it that's your specialty."
"Yep." I smiled, looking down at her, "Can't use chakra in a hit if you can't actually hit anything."
She pouted at me again, "I can hit things!"
"Yeah, yeah." I dismissed, looking back at Neji, "So, what do you think you-"
Hanabi unexpectedly buried an elbow in my gut, causing me to let go of her and double over. Okay, yeah, should've seen that coming.
