The broad hallways of HQ were just about as intimidating as the meeting I was about to take part in, each step only increasing my anxious apprehension as to what the gathered Kages would ask of me. Footsteps echoing off of the high ceiling, I tried my best to ignore how my choice of footwear was most likely going to signal my approach and instead focused on the warm hand intertwined with my very cold one.
"You okay?"
I glanced to the side to look at Kiba before pointedly returning my eyes to the path, "Yeah, I'm fine."
"You're hand's really freakin' cold," he gave my hand a squeeze as if to make some kind of point, "You're nervous aren't you."
"Of course I am." I scoffed, already getting defensive although I wasn't quite sure as to why, "They all asked to speak to me alone."
"Okay, yeah, I guess that would make someone nervous," he admitted with a sigh, "But... what do they even want you for?"
"Oh, I don't know, I have a curse mark, I'm technically still considered a traitor of the village, I'm a wealth of information about our past enemies, and I'm the only person that most people still consider to know the location of Sakura." I listed, mood growing worse with each reason; I was beginning to think I might not get out of this one alive.
"Oh..." Kiba's brow furrowed, "Well, they're probably only going to want to ask you questions, so there's no point in being worried about it."
"You're really trying to tell me to not be worried about something?" I deadpanned.
Kiba let out a dramatic groan, "Hinata, they aren't going to do anything to you! They just want information. You've already shown plenty of times that you're loyal, and, like you said, you have intel that they want."
"You think so?" I asked uncertainly as we got to the door.
"I know so." he smirked, "I'll be right out here, okay?"
I nodded, offering him a smile before letting my hand slide out of his grip. With a deep breath I walked through the doors to see the Kages sitting in a semicircle pattern, no longer feeling the need to space themselves apart now that we were going into a time of peace.
All eyes turned to me, and I couldn't help but feel a resurgence of the crippling stage fright that plagued me in my last life. Something about the unforgiving, stern glares of a bunch of expectant, powerful leaders caught me off guard I guess. At least Karin was smiling at me.
"Good, we can begin then.'' The Tsuchikage stated with an air of impatience, but it wasn't like I wasn't expecting that from him.
Tsunade held up a hand, "First: Hinata, how is the repacking of the medical camp going?"
"It is just about completed Lady Tsunade." I answered quickly; we did in fact have most of the supplies already shipped off back to their villages while the Vine and Leaf decided to pack up last to take care of any of the still wounded.
"Excellent." Tsunade smiled slightly at the news, and I felt just a tiny bit of stress leave me, "Then we can move right into our business then."
The Mizukage nodded, "On behalf of all of the villages, we wanted to thank you for your great help in both defeating the enemy and keeping our peoples alive." Well... I wasn't expecting that.
"Yes, we have all talked it over," Gaara surprisingly spoke next, "And we see no reason to not pardon you as you have shown unwavering loyalty during the war."
"You might be a deserter who was working with that Pink devil behind the scenes," the Tsuchikage snarked, "But we all know your intentions now, and we see no reason to be unduly harsh."
