We were soon enough in the lobby where the first exam would be taken, having quite easily skipped the whole fake-room-fiasco by walking past and shouting that we were heading to the actual testing room. After entering I found Hina already in the room, unsurprisingly, and talking to Kiba, also unsurprisingly.
"Hey, Hina!" I chirped as I skipped over and ruffled her hair. She let out a little frustrated huff, fixed her hair, and then shot me a grin.
"Ready for the first exam?" She asked with a knowing smile.
"Oh, definitely!" I clapped my hands together.
"God, this exam is gonna be such a pain." We both turned to see Shikamaru and his team walking up to us.
"Dude, it's not that big a deal." Hina chuckled, "'specially not with your brain."
Shikamaru scoffed and looked off to the side. Was he blushing?
I looked back to see Kiba firmly place his hand on Hina's head turning her face towards him. I tensed up as I was sure she'd freak out. But she... didn't?
"Y'know Hinata," he grinned teasingly at her, "you're surprisingly calm. I was expecting you to be freaking out right now."
"Y'know Kiba," she teased back, "I have a functioning brain that'll help me ace this."
"Hey!" Kiba pouted and crossed his arms defensively, "I have a functioning brain!"
"Says the guy who has set himself on fire three separate times when I expressly told you not to touch my stuff!"
"To be fair Hinata," Shino suddenly entered the conversation, "he was set on fire by the paper bombs you planted."
"You planted the paper bombs?" he looked betrayed.
"I did say not to touch my stuff." Hina shrugged.
God... they were so cute together. I couldn't help but feel a bit bitter that I could never have that with my man.
"Okay you two," I cooed, "stop flirting already." Both of them blushed and looked at the floor.
"So, Naruto, Sasuke," Hina changed the subject, "how are you guys feeling about the exams?"
"I dunno, not too worried I guess," Naruto shrugged.
"Yeah, Sakura told us not to worry about it." Sasuke added. Hina gave me a mischievous smile.
"Using your knowledge well, aren't ya?" she mused.
"Yep! Really, everyone, this exam is no big deal." I said happily.
"It's a relief to know that," Hina laughed, "cuz I do get bad test anxiety."
"Yeah, you do," I emphasized.
I saw Hina open her mouth to say something, but suddenly she stopped, her facial expression freezing in place. Her face transitioned from confused into recognition, eyes widening as she clearly remembered something as she looked a bit behind me. I watched in utter confusion as a look of sheer fury crossed through her glassy irises, smoldering down into a cold rage as her eyes narrowed. She straightened and turned fully towards me.
"Hey, Sakura," her voice was scarily low, quiet, "is it just me, or do you sense some massive bitch energy?" She raised her voice, obviously trying to make sure someone heard. The gears ground in my head until it clicked. I turned slowly, feeling the hot fire of wrath crawl up into my chest.
There was the man, the myth, the utter bitch: Kabuto. He wore his classic mask of innocent friendliness, the bane of my existence, as he casually strolled up to us. He gave a brief pause though, well acted confusion crossing his face as he read my expression.
