"Okay." I began, "I'm going to go up to the door and... say 'hi'?'" I shook my head in frustration, "No, that's stupid."

Sasuke glanced at me as we continued to walk.

"I'm gonna go up and knock and then he's gonna open the door and..." I racked my brain for an idea, "'Hey, dad'? 'Yo'? 'Long time no see'?"

"Kiba."

"'It's been a while'?" I ran my hands through my hair, "Shit, is he even going to want to talk to me? What if he tells me to screw off?"

"Dude."

"Should I punch him? I kinda want to punch him. No, I'm not gonna punch him." I grabbed at my hair, "How the hell is he going to react to seeing me? I can't let him get to me if I haven't even gotten to him yet."

"Kiba."

"I can't freak out. I'm stronger than that. I'm not gonna freak out." I took a deep breath, balling up my hands into determined fists, "It's fine. I'm fine. He can't hurt me. I'm strong. I'm determined. It's fine."

"Are you trying to Lee your way through a panic attack?" Sasuke asked incredulously.

"No... yes." I groaned in frustration, "Shit. He can't hurt me anymore. I can fight back now. I could just punch him. Should I punch my dad?"

"Hurt you?" Sasuke echoed with wide eyes.

"I was small then; couldn't do anything about it." I rambled, "But, whatever, that's in the past. If he's a drunk asshole still I can just tell him to piss off."

"I'm going to punch your dad." Sasuke promised with a scarily serious look on his face.

I waved my hands frantically, "Just forget about it. Tell me what I should say."

Sasuke stopped walking, and I looked up to see it was because we had reached the house. My stomach dropped, and I found myself rooted to the spot.

"Kiba." Sasuke grabbed my shoulders and turned me towards him, "Chill. Out. You're okay. You're just talking to your dad, and I'm here. Nothing bad is going to happen to you."

"I- I just have no idea who I'm going to meet." I admitted.

Sasuke sighed, a surprisingly sympathetic look in his eyes, "C'mon dude, I get it, but you need to do this. This is your chance to figure out what the truth is."

I nodded, "You're right. I gotta do this."

"Let's go then." Sasuke turned, but I grabbed his shoulder.

"I want to go up first... alone." I stated shakily.

"Are you sure?" Sasuke's brow furrowed.

"Just... please." I pleaded.

Sasuke sighed, and took a step back, gesturing to the door. I nodded, stepping onto the path and taking a deep breath. I hadn't seen him in ten years; that was wild to think about. I finally found the will to start moving my feet.

I made my way up the path to the door, but when I was about four feet from the door it opened.

A tall man with shoulder length, curly dark auburn hair exited the house, immediately spinning on his heel to turn around and lock it. He was whistling calmly to himself as he pocketed his keys, and turned to continue his way.

I was frozen for a moment as his hair fell back out of his face; it was him, no doubt about it. A sudden rage built up in me as I recognized the man that caused my mother and sister so much pain.
