I spend most days after school doing one of two things: watching Adam at football practice or working on my homework in the library.

I skipped practice today, figuring Nate would be working out with the team. I hadn't talked to him at all yet and I honestly didn't know what to say.

When he threw my crush on Tristan in my face as a goodbye gift, it hurt and I wasn't ready to face him just yet.

After using Adam's keys, I sat in his car and waited, knowing football practice was just about over.

I cowered in the passenger's seat a few minutes later when I saw some of the guys on the team-- namely Nate-- entered the parking lot.

As I sank into the leather seat, I watched Nate talking to some of the guys, who all were walking to their cars.

I barely heard Adam or noticed when he got into the car, leaving a kiss on my cheek as he started up his truck.

My eyes stayed glued onto Nate-- even through the side view mirror-- as we left the parking lot, leaving him sitting alone on a bench.

The second Nate was out of eyesight, my mind drifted back to the two things I'd been silently obsessing over: Tristan and that kiss.

It was something I never thought would happen, and now that it did... I couldn't help but wonder what it meant?

I had been zoning out for so long, I didn't notice Adam yelling, trying to get my attention.

What I did notice was the stinging sensation and the burning feeling on my left leg.

I sucked in a gasp in shock as I looked over at Adam, who had his jaw clenched and his eyes focused on the road.

"Would you fucking pay attention? I've been calling your name for, like, a minute."

I looked over at him in disbelief while he took a quick glance over at me before focusing back on the road.

"Like I was saying... we're going to Callan's party Friday night."

He put his truck in 'park' but left it running as he turned to look at me with a scowl on his face.

"And make sure you cover that shit up tomorrow."

I looked down at the red handprint starting to form on my left thigh, still trying to figure what exactly just happened.

I heard Adam sigh before he mumbled a 'sorry' and left a kiss on my cheek.

"Jay, you know I didn't mean it, right? I was just frustrated that I couldn't get your attention. You know I love you."

I bit my lip and gave him a small nod before slipping out of his car, ready to make the long trek up my driveway.

As I shut the front door behind me, I was grateful for the silence. My dad was still at practice and my mom was in New York for a few more days, procuring some artwork for her LA gallery.

I ran to my room and into my attached bathroom, wincing as I took a look at the large handprint on my leg.

Adam had always been a little aggressive, but today was something completely different.
