"And it'll go off when she opens it?"

"Yup. It's spring-loaded so it won't explode or anything, so you're all set."

I pulled out the promised two hundred bucks and handed it over to Phillip, one of the kids in all the AP Science classes. After shutting the locker, he turned and walked away leaving me and Brett in the hallway.

"Dude, that kid's gonna be a sick engineer one day."

"True but... come on, all of this for prom?"

I sighed and turned to Brett, nodding my head.

Sunny and I had been together almost six months, and my Senior Prom was 5 weeks away.

"I wanna make it a Pomposal she'll never forget."

"Aww, my boy's in love."

I shook my head, playfully shoving Brett, as I placed the glittery, purple 'S' on her locker, before heading out that Thursday after school.

We got to my car and I loaded all the stuff we didn't use into the backseat, before hopping behind the wheel.

"So, have you told her about next year?"

As I turned the engine on I sighed and shook my head, earning a surprised scoff from Brett.

"Dude."

"I know, man, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do. This is a big deal, and I have to talk to her about it."

"Yeah, you do. And soon..."

After dropping Brett off, I headed for the beach to clear my head.

I know my parents had always pushed for it, but college wasn't really what I saw for myself after high school. But as the application deadline started drawing near, my mom's hassling intensified, so I finally mailed them in.

I got into a few places, but I still didn't see myself at a full-time university, so I figured I could go to a local community college for two years then transfer out after.

I'd save money by staying local, I'd earn all my GE credits, and I'd never have to leave my Bunni's side.

All that changed about a week ago when Brett and I were skating in Venice, where we ran into legendary skateboarder, Kyle LaSalle.

He'd been one of the trailblazers in the industry and one of the guys I looked up to growing up.

He'd seen Brett and me on the boardwalk messing around on our boards and approached us later, as we ate our burritos in the sand.

I almost spit out some steak and pico de gallo when he handed us his business card, saying he'd like to set up a meeting with us.

That meeting was two days ago, a huge part of me was stoked that Kyle LaSalle wanted me on his team.

I'd be able to travel around skating and competing, getting paid for what I loved to do, which was an amazing opportunity... I just had no idea how to tell Sunny.
