It was Thursday, a few hours after school, and I had just finished up on a group project in the library.
I was dropping off some books at my locker when a voice surprised me from behind.
"Jay... baby..."
I rolled my eyes and turned around to see a grim look on Adam's face. We hadn't spoken since the week after we broke up. He came up to me at lunch trying to talk to me, and Tristan wasn't having it.
I'm not sure what he whispered to Adam, but it was enough to make him avoid me ever since.
"What do you want, Adam?"
"You, babe. I miss you."
"Hmm."
It was sarcastic when it came out, because there was no part of me that believed him. On top of the fact that I knew he'd been hooking up with some girl from Palisades Prep, I was too preoccupied with a certain pair of brothers to care what Adam was doing.
"I mean it, Jay."
"That's not my name."
"You love when I call you 'Jay'."
He took this opportunity to take a step closer, and as I backed up against the lockers, I scowled up at Adam.
"I've always hated that name."
His eyes were wild with fury for a moment, then back to normal, just like that, causing me to cautiously inch away from him.
"Look-- Baby, I was an idiot. I only said all that stuff because I wanted those guys to stay away from you."
I rolled my eyes once again as I slammed my locker, completely over Adam and the situation.
"I've heard that before, Adam. From two guys who won't put their hands on me. Stay away from me."
"You don't mean that, Jay."
"Oh, but I do, Adam."
He let out a sarcastic chuckle as he nodded his head.
"It's those little O' Connell bitches, right?"
"No, Adam. It's you. I just don't want a dickhead for a boyfriend."
I went to take a step around him ready to go outside and call an Uber, when he took a giant step back, blocking my way as he slammed his hand against the lockers.
"Listen, you little bitch. The nex--"
"Hey!"
A deep voice rang out behind Adam, and as we both looked over, I let out a sigh of relief, seeing someone standing there, eyeing the situation in front of him.
"Is there a problem over here?"
"Tris..."
