I slowly blinked, waking up on a hard surface and an unfamiliar room.I looked up and smiled, seeing Tristan's cerulean eyes beaming as he smiled at me.
"Hi."
"Hi."
My voice was barely over a whisper as I responded then was suddenly caught in my throat when Tristan rubbed my cheek and kissed my forehead.
I was just about to lean up to reach his lips when his mom's voice called out, making us both turn to see her standing in the doorway.
"Kids, breakfast is ready!"
She was gone a moment later and when I looked back at Tristan, his soft gaze caused the cartwheels to start in my stomach.
He kissed my forehead and gently squeezed my waist before letting go.
"Let's go, Bunni babe."
✨
Tristan held my hand until we got to the kitchen when I finally pulled away. He looked back at me with a weird look on his face, but that was stiffened into a cold glare a moment later when I took the seat next to Nate.
Tristan rolled his eyes, shook his head, and sat across from us, avoiding eye contact as breakfast was served. He glared at Nate who was smirking and only seemed to smirk more once Aunt Trish sighed and set her silverware down.
"Now..."
She began slowly as she looked back and forth between me and Tristan.
"About the two of you sleeping together..."
The orange juice that I was sipping on was nearly spat out as Tristan looked at me with wide eyes then over at his mom.
"Mom! Nothing happened."
"I know that, Trist, but you guys are growing up. Maybe it's time the sleepovers come to an end."
Everyone's eyes were on Aunt Trish when she said that, but mine were on Nate a second later, not anticipating his reaction.
"Mom, no! That's not fair."
Tristan glared and looked over at Nate, nodding in his direction as a sarcastic smile suddenly turned up on his face.
"Bet you didn't think that would backfire, did you, genius?"
"Shut up, Tris."
"No, Nathaniel!"
"Boys!"
Suddenly the room was quiet. Uncle Karl rarely got mad, but it was always scary when he yelled.
Suddenly, I wanted to get away from the tension, and it seemed like I had caused it."
"Umm, may I eat this on the patio? It's a really nice morning."
Aunt Trish was rubbing gentle circles into Uncle Karl's hand as she looked at me with a soft smile on her face.
"Sure, sweetie. Your mom should be home soon. I can drive you over when she gets back."
I nodded and thanked Aunt Trish before picking up my plate and glass of juice, ready to head out to the O'Connell's back patio.
I rolled my eyes as in annoyance I could hear the faint sounds of Aunt Trish scolding Tristan and Nate.
They barely got along for twelve hours before the bickering came back in full force.
