"Three more weeks isn't that bad."I rolled my eyes, unfittingly annoyed with my mom's optimism as she drove us home after my latest doctor's appointment.
"That's just until I get the pins out."
"But it'll be a little more comfortable, right? I'm just trying to look on the bright side, Tris."
I sighed and nodded my head.
"I know, Mom. I'm sorry. I just... I feel like a joke now."
She had just made the turn for the main entrance to our gated community and leaned over to punch in our code.
"A joke? Why is that?"
I shrugged a little, looking down at my black cast. At first, I wanted it to be purple, Sunny's favorite color, but I knew it would only remind me of my stupidity.
"Because... everything made sense before, ya know? I had my future laid out for me and all I had to do was follow along with the plan. I couldn't even do that."
"Tris?"
"When what I thought was a better opportunity was right in my face, I took it-- without ever thinking about the consequences. And I screwed that up, too."
As my mom pulled into our driveway, my voice softened when I looked over at her.
"Mom, you were right, okay? I should've just stayed and gone to school here. I- I'm sorry, okay? For all the worry I put you and dad through last year. I... I'm sorry."
She nodded and sniffled a little and as she exited the car, I knew she took my words to heart.
For as long as I've known, my mom always held her emotions close to her chest.
Only time would tell now.
As I hopped out of the car, a little more comfortably with my new cast, I looked over in the direction of Sunny's house.
Of the only two women in my life who mattered, I felt a little better having made up with my mom.
Now all I had to do was convince the girl I walked away from to forgive me.
I know Sunny was drunk the other night after Nate's party, and in those two minutes we talked, I had already screwed up.
I knew I had to be careful.
I didn't wanna push her away any further.
