A month and a half they'd lived in the large house, and Jack was miserable every waking hour. He'd gotten cabin fever, scratched at the windows that viewed the ocean, and even made himself severely sick. Party after party he would sit bored in the corner, dreaming of the ocean. He wouldn't even try to make rich talk with the men that used combs for their mustaches.
Now he sat at a seat by a window, blankly staring out at the ocean.
"Jack, you look pitiful." Angelica came over and put a hand on his shoulder.
Jack slowly turned his head to her. He had bags under his eyes and his face had taken on a grayish pigment.
"Why are you never happy?" Angelica sat on the arm of the chair.
"I don't have the sea, I'm not on a ship." Jack stuttered and looked around as if everything was alien to him.
"You don't need to be." Angelica stroked his arm, covered in another jacket.
Jack looked at her with wide eyes. "Yes I do, Angelica. This isn't healthy for me." He grabbed her shoulders.
"You'll get used to it, Jack." Angelica smiled at him and got up to attend to her business.
Jack watched her leave and dropped his jaw about how little she understood him now.
"Guess I'll have to be a little more blunt." He muttered and weakly got up.
He found Angelica in the study, writing some checks.
"Angelica, I need to say something." Jack announced.
"Of course, Jack." Angelica said, not even looking up from her work.
"I can't stay." Jack said.
Angelica dropped her pen and gave a small laugh. "Of course you can."
"No I can't! I've got to be with the sea. I can't deal with the rich talk and the clothes and everything!" Jack vented.
"So you're leaving?" Angelica started to sound angry.
"Only for a month." Jack confirmed.
"Alright." Angelica sighed with tears in her eyes. "But no more."
"Whatever makes you happy, my love." He wiped a few tears from her face.
"It would make me happy if you stayed." She grabbed his arm.
"You've seen how that turned out." Jack said sympathetically.
"I know, you'll always be a pirate at heart and I can't change that." She sighed and dropped his arm.
"Just remember you'll be right there next to the pirate part." Jack smiled and stroked her cheek.
"Please do not do anything stupid." She begged.
"You know me, love." Jack grinned.
"When do you leave?" She asked.
"I'm sorry, in a few minutes as soon as I grab my compass." Jack said quickly as he checked the time.
"Be careful, I love you." Angelica hugged him.
"I love you too, Angel." Jack hugged her back and kissed her before he ran upstairs, downstairs and out the door.
"A pirate's life for me!" He smiled wildly and sang.
