"Psst" Angelica heard in the middle of the night. She got up groggily and rubbed her head. Then she sat strait up and ran to the door, there was a man with a torch who had the keys.
Angelica jumped him and choked him against the bars, "wait!" he choked his words. Angelica released him but held her grip.
"Let. Me. Out." She demanded
"That was the plan, shh" he unlocked the door and led Angelica into the woods.
---------------------------------------------
He led her to a treehouse. Once inside, Angelica could see notebook after notebook and crumpled papers everywhere.
"What is this place?" She said, looking around in awe.
"My research tower, I study the natives here. I heard you screaming last night." He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
Angelica noticed him now, he was an awkward looking man with shaggy gold hair and blue eyes who wore thick glasses with cracks and dents. "What's your name?"
"Sherman." he straitened his glasses and offered his hand.
"Angelica" she replied, shaking his hand. "Sorry for almost killing you" she chuckled.
"Oh, um yea it's fine. Glad you can protect yourself." He said blushing. Then Sherman looked down to find he was still holding Angelica's hand. "Oh sorry!" he said releasing it. Angelica smiled, then continued to look around.
"If you don't mind me asking... Angelica, who is Jack?"
"Oh dear do you have the unfortunate luck to know him?" Angelica said rolling her eyes.
"No.. I just heard you screaming and I thought-" Sherman took off his glasses, studying the cracked lenses to avoid eye contact.
"Oh yea, that's um..... that is no one." Angelica said, it wasn't convincing, but it was enough to say it was a sensitive subject.
"Are you sure-?"
"Yes." Angelica cut him off, becoming flushed and angry at the thought of Jack. "No." she muttered to herself.
