Angelica lie in the top bunk of a bunk bed. She bunked with Jack since he had been teaching her.
She was just drifting into the deep abyss of sleep when there was a loud boom and dust fell from the ceiling.
"GET UP!!" Jack literally dragged her off the top bunk and out the door.
"What's happening?" She screamed.
"Sneak attack." Jack replied.
He yanked her into an alley way and against a wall to hide in a shadow.
"They had to do it in the rain too." Jack griped.
Angelica breathed heavily.
"We need to move." Jack peeked out into the open and the signaled to run.
They darted for the bomb shelter as gunfire exploded all around them.
They barely made it before another bomb crashed, even closer.
"We made it." Jack smiled and looked down at her.
Angelica was shaking as she stared at her hand, covered in blood.
Her gaze shifted from her hand, to her stomach, to Jack. A terrified gaze.
"You've been shot, looks like a bad one. Let me see it, lad." Jack cleared off a table and tried to get her shirt off.
"No! Please!" She begged, holding the buttons to her shirt.
"It's not going to heal if you don't let me get the bullet out!" He yelled and ripped her shirt halfway up before recognizing the 'J' scar.
"Oh my... Angelica" He breathed.
"I'm sorry. I needed to know you were alive, Jack, I couldn't have you dead!" She sobbed.
"It's alright, love." Jack embraced her. "I need to treat that though. Please?" Jack asked.
Angelica nodded and Jack leaned her back on the table.
"This will hurt." Jack told her and gave her a rag to bite.
He reached into the bloody hole and fished for the bullet. Angelica winced and cried as he did so.
Finally he retrieved the metal from her wound and wrapped it with a cloth.
"It may get infected. We don't have the best resources here." He warned.
"Thank you." She kissed him.
Jack hugged her. "I'm sorry this ever happened."
"Jack, it's not your fault. Don't worry. We will get out of this alive." She stroked his hair.
Jack smiled at her to give her courage, "yes, we will get out of this alive."
