Jackie and Seraphina ran all over town trying to find news of the Sparrows. So far they had nothing.
"Can you keep up?" Jackie asked Seraphina.
"Of course." she defended as she leaned over breathless.
"You make it hard to keep you safe you know." He said and patted her on the back.
"You make it hard to be kept safe." She countered.
"Need a rest?" He offered.
"Yes." She groaned.
The two found an alley and went in.
"Do you have a flashlight?" Seraphina asked.
"No, why?" Jackie said.
"It's dark. I might sit on a rat." She whined.
"Then don't sit." He said obviously.
"Oh thanks." She joked.
Jackie didn't reply.
"Jackie?" She started to panic.
She heard rustling behind her and then, in one blur, felt a blade at her neck.
"Don't move or speak or you both die." Said the figure holding Jackie.
"Wait. I know that smell." Said the figure holding Seraphina.
Jackie felt a hand run through his hair, and along his jaw.
"Jackie!" Screeched the voice.
Jackie was then thrust into a familiar embrace.
"We missed you, boy." Said the other figure.
A lantern was lit and Jackie could see both his parents hugging him.
"You aren't dead!" The boy grinned.
"Course not, lad." Jack laughed.
Jackie gasped at Angelica, "you've been shot!"
"Yes we've established that." She said dryly. "I'm fine. The bullet is out, it will heal right up." She pinched the boys shoulder.
Jackie couldn't help but bear hug both of them.
"You took good care of the lass?" Jack asked in a low voice only Jackie could hear.
"Yes, dad." Jackie chuckled.
Jack patted his son's back. "Good job, lad. Taking after your dad." He said and draped an arm around Angelica's shoulders.
"Let's get back to the ship." Angelica suggested and grabbed Jack's hand that was on the other side of her shoulders.
"Thanks, Jack." She said as they walked 10 paces behind the smaller couple.
"For what?" Jack asked and lowered his hand to her waist.
Angelica leaned into him. "For saving my life just one more time."
"It's my job, love." He said and gave her a long wet kiss.
