"Go, Men!" Jack ordered. "Get the cannons ready for tomorrow!"
"Captain!" Leonardo ran towards him. "May I ask, when is the next port?" he asked shyly
"Not for a day, I'm afraid," Jack said to the man.
"And the Kraken is coming before that," Leonardo sighed. "How are you going to win this, I wonder?"
"Improvisation, lad."
"That doesn't sound full proof," Leonardo shivered.
"The object is not to win. The object is to keep my wife safe. Many of us will die, maybe even me, but we only lose this battle if she goes down," He said.
"That's a very brave thing to do. Especially for a pirate," Leonardo smiled.
Jack smiled and nodded. "It's a thing you do when you're in love."
"Captain, I've decided that I will fight, or try, when the time comes. I want to be a part of keeping your wife and child safe." Leonardo crossed his hand over his heart.
"Thank you, sailor," Jack addressed and watched as he walked off to find a weapon.
He watched as all of his crew managed to move the cannons so that they were ready for the upcoming battle.
He turned on his heel and found Angelica looked at the scene before her nervously.
"Back in the cabin," Jack ordered to keep her from crying.
"You can't hide me from what's happening," She said to him. "I know what is going to happen."
Jack was speechless. He simply went and pulled her head to his chest. He rubbed her head and sighed. Angelica laid her hand on his chest and her other on her bump. She looked up and managed to smile a small bit.
"I felt it kick last night," She told Jack.
Jack chuckled and put his hand on her stomach, feeling the thump of a foot.
"You've got a rowdy one in there," Jack commented and Angelica blushed.
"I know where he gets it from," She laughed.
Jack playfully scowled and pinched her arm.
"It could be a girl, you know."
Jack pulled Angelica closer. "And I would love it still."
Both of them mentioned nothing of the battle and how said child might not even be born.
"I've got to help, head back inside, please. There's nothing you can do out here but watch." Jack ushered her inside.
Angelica nodded and slowly walked into the room. Jack went to Gibbs, who was heaving a cannon with other men.
"Gibbs, I will be in the cabin tomorrow during the battle." Jack informed.
"Captain!" Gibbs complained.
"Being with my depressed wife is more important than dealing with the angered beast." He spat.
Gibbs nodded after a moment of smiling at the soft pirate. "You've become quite the father, Jack."
"I won't deny it, Gibbs, it's nice to have a family," He grinned.
He paced back to his cabin to comfort Angelica, who was nowhere to be found.
"Angelica?" Jack called softly. He walked towards the bathroom, where a light was shining under the door. He slowly pushed open the door to find Angelica, in the bath that was blanketing by bubbles and blocking his view, whispering words to the baby in Spanish.
"Estaremos bien. Te lo prometo, mi hijo, vamos a estar bien," She said softly and a small tear rolled from her eye.
Jack walked in and over to the bath, kneeling down and wiping the tear away. Angelica smiled and held the rest back.
"Tomorrow?" She asked, not wanting to say it.
Jack nodded and put his arm around her shoulders, wetting his sleeve. Angelica laid her head on his arm and stared off into space for a few minutes.
"How is the baby?" Jack asked, snapping her awake.
"Kicking all the time," She groaned but smiled.
"He's a natural born pirate," Jack gave a toothy grin. His silver and gold teeth twinkled.
"Of course he is! He's your son," Angelica smiled as well.
Jack kissed her forehead and sighed as he stood. "Hurry out of the bath, I want to show you something."
Jack left and a few minutes later, Angelica came out in her nightgown. Jack gave her his coat and led her out on deck. He led her to the crow's nest and they climbed the ladder to the top.
Angelica stood by the side, and Jack put his hands on her shoulders.
"Look up," He whispered.
She obeyed and thousands of stars reflectively twinkled in her wide eyes.
"They're beautiful," She gasped.
Jack nestled his chin on her shoulder and put his arms around her waist from behind.
"They're ours."
Angelica smiled at him. "The stars? How?"
"The stars belong to everyone, but I'm giving them to you." He said and turned her around. "Never let them go."
Angelica smiled with watery eyes and hugged him tight. Jack hugged her back and looked up at the stars. Angelica looked up too, and a shooting star shot across the sky.
"What'd you wish?" Jack asked, still holding her.
"An eternity with you," She lie her head on his chest and he combed his fingers through her hair.
"We should be getting in. It's late. Early morning by now." Jack broke their embrace and Angelica sighed.
"Thank you, Jack. For this and for everything else. I love you," She said.
Jack grabbed his jacket and pulled her close. He pulled the jacket up and over both of their heads.
"I love you too, my angel," He whispered and kissed her. After about a minute, Angelica broke away and giggled at Jack's disappointment.
"Come on, Jack." She pulled the overcoat down and started descending the ladder. Jack followed shortly after, but never finished. As soon as Angelica was on the deck safe, a monstrous wave tilted the ship and Jack fell the last fourth of the ladder.
"Jack!" Angelica ran to him on a heap on the deck.
"I'm fine!" He squeaked.
He got up with Angelica's help and they ran to the cabin.
"KRAKEN!!" One of the crew members bellowed.
"Beastie.." Jack's voice grew grave and his eyes turned dark.
"Jack!" Angelica snapped him out of his trance and looked at him fearfully.
"We'll be alright, darling," Jack held her to his chest as the ship violently rocked every few seconds.
"How? This is the kraken may I remind you!" Angelica worried and her breathing rate increased.
"We'll find a way. Lay down and stop hyperventilating, it's not good for the lad." Jack placed his hand on her stomach, and was kicked hard by a foot.
"See? He's upset."
Angelica looked at Jack as if she were a scared horse and he had a whip.
"Angelica." Jack said sternly.
Angelica leaned farther back into the pillows, trying to melt into them and away from the death outside her door.
Jack cupped her face and brought it inches from his own.
"We will survive." He stated confidently. "Trust me."
Angelica blinked away a few tears and nodded. A boom was heard against the door and Jack opened it to find Leonardo with a hole in his stomach, bleeding all over the deck.
"I tried to help," He croaked. "To save the child."
"You're going to be fine," Jack comforted as the man's life slipped away.
"It's been a pleasure, Captain." His head fell heavy against Jack's hand.
"You were a good man," Jack sighed and leant him against the wall outside his door.
He opened to door and Angelica caught a glimpse of the body. Her face was pure terror and a scream rippled through the air.
"Shhh, love. He wasn't a great fighter," He cooed.
Angelica took deep breaths and nodded.
"Angelica, you're alright here on your own?" He asked and took a few steps away from the bed.
Angelica violently shook her head back and forth and grabbed him back.
"I've got to help, I will come back." He swore.
Angelica sighed and slowly let go. "Sparrow, if you leave me one more time." She winked with a sad smile.
"You have permission to kill me if I do," He winked back and ran out the door.
Angelica was left alone in the cabin to endure the sounds of pain and suffering outside. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried to escape, but it was no use. Suddenly, the window near Jack's bed burst and a tentacle came through. Angelica scurried away and locked herself in the bathroom, breathing like a fat man in a marathon.
She finally gathered enough courage to go out, and she dove for the bed. She sighed a breath of relief that the tentacle was gone, but the relief left her when it re entered through the other window. Angelica screamed and grabbed for a sword. She found her's and swung it at the tentacle. The slimy thing fell from the window and the beast howled in pain. Angelica looked at her blood coated sword in pride. Now knowing she could fight this monster, she ran out the doors to the deck, but was immediately pushed back by Jack.
"In the cabin!" He yelled.
"I can help!" She protested.
Their argument was silenced when a giant tentacle slithered across the deck and stopped threateningly in front of them. They both froze and flinched as it prepared to strike, but the blow never came. Jack opened one eye to find Tia Dalma standing between the monster and them.
"I'm only doing this for you, Jack." She warned.
She said a few words and the beast recoiled into the waters.
"Tia, thank you!" Angelica laughed, but the witch cut her off.
"I didn't do it for you."
Angelica fell silent and Jack thanked her.
"I don't work without pay," She smirked.
"I suppose you do deserve a reward," Jack searched his pocket.
"No money?" Tia said.
Jack pulled his pockets out empty.
"Then maybe a curse will do," She said and twirled her fingers, creating and blue light that floated on the tips.
"Tia-" Jack warned.
"Your child," She started with a malicious grin, "will be cursed," she rounded the fearful couple and twirled Angelica's hair. "After a long and painful labor, you're little baby will bring only bad things to anyone around it." She pulled Angelica's hair and shot the blue light into Angelica's stomach.
