Jack's eyes flew open and he bolted strait up in bed at the sound of Angelica's pained scream.
"What is it!?" He looked next to him to find Angelica curled up with her hands clutching her large bump.
"No.." He breathed.
"Jack!" Angelica screamed, "get Gibbs!"
Jack's breathing rate increased at record speed as he flew off the bed and out of his cabin, paying no mind to the fact that he only wore loose trousers.
"Gibbs!" Jack called.
"Capai-"
"Cabin, now!" Jack yelled and ran back inside.
Angelica lie on the bed, already drenched with sweat and silent tears. Her hands lie on the profound bump under her shirt and her breathing was quick like Jack's.
Jack crawled onto the bed and to her side, gently grabbing her hand. He lifted it to his face and kissed it, whilst she squeezed his bones hard enough to break.
Gibbs rushed in and set his rusty tools by the bedside.
"Jack, remove her pants and make her comfortable. I need to get something," Gibbs ordered and rushed out again.
Jack gently tugged off her loose trousers and changed her into a bigger shirt. He lie a sheet over her and kissed her cheek, waiting for Gibbs to return.
"Drink this," Gibbs immediately demanded on his arrival.
Angelica sniffed it and looked at Gibbs questioningly.
"Do it, it will make it less painful."
Angelica gulped down the substance in one swig and fought to keep it down. Gibbs set up at the foot of the bed and looked at Jack for confirmation. Jack solemnly nodded and Gibbs folded the sheet upwards to begin work.11 hours later, Angelica was still screaming her head off and the baby had only come halfway since they began.
"You'll make it," Jack encouraged, "you will."
Angelica howled in pain as she pushed, simultaneously squeezing Jack's hand like the throat of an enemy.
"Ow," Jack squeaked in a comically high pitch voice.
Angelica paid no mind to his newly broken fingers and focused on the insides of her eyelids. She pressed her thumbnail into the tips of her fingers until they bled, when Jack handed her a pillow to squeeze.
Angelica gasped and collapsed backwards out of exhaustion, but Gibbs barked at her to keep going.
"You've made it through half of this, Angelica, just do the same thing you've been doing."
Angelica let a few tears slip and crunched as she pushed as hard as she could. Jack's eyes became moist as he saw her in pain.
He knelt by her side and dropped his head on her chest. "If this is hard for me, I can't imagine what you're feeling right now," he whispered to her.
"Happiness," she whispered back.
Jack smiled at her lie. He fetched a rag and wiped away the sweat he could as she continued her painful sentence of labor.Another 10 hours later, the baby was finally close. Angelica had become weak and hardly hurt Jack when she squeezed his hand.
"Keep fighting, love," Jack told her, but he wasn't sure that she was even listening. Her eyes were glossy and her breathing had slowed.
"Gibbs, is she alright?" Jack looked frantically to his old friend.
"She's tired. Twenty one hours, so far, of an extremely painful labor, Jack. One can only take so much before exhaustion or..." Gibbs trailed off and turned his attention back to the baby.
"Or?"
"She needs to push," Gibbs ignored his question.
"Joshamee," Jack demanded.
Gibbs looked up at the use of his proper name to see Jack angrier than Davy Jones.
"Or... She might not pull through," Gibbs said quietly.
Jack's face turned soft and he nodded in understanding. He turned his face to Angelica's, which seemed to be sleeping.
Jack shook her awake and she opened her red eyes.
"Push a little longer, Angel."
Angelica leaned her head back and took a few deep breaths before she threw her head forward with a grunt. A baby's cry could be heard from the foot of the bed and Gibbs's face lightened. He cleaned the small child and wrapped it in a blanket before handing it to Jack.
"A girl," Gibbs told him.
The small child cried and flailed in his arms before being mesmerized by the beads in his beard. It flailed towards them and grabbed his beard.
"N-no," Jack attempted parenting the small infant.
"Give her to Angelica," Gibbs suggested.
Jack did as he was told and set the child on Angelica's chest. Her droopy eyes flopped open and she reached her weak arms up to embrace the child.
"Would you like me to take her for a while, Angelica?" Gibbs asked. "While you rest?"
"If you would, Gibbs." She coughed.
Gibbs nodded and carefully took the baby as he left.
"I told you that you would survive, didn't I?" Jack smirked, but Angelica did not return it.
"It's not over yet, Jack. Remember the recovery time is the risky bit."
"I'll be right here the whole time," Jack promised.
"I know," Angelica smiled.
"You know I wouldn't leave you for the world."
"That's why I married you and not some Spanish brawn. Captain Jack Sparrow is my one love," She grabbed his hand.
"The same for me. The reason I stayed: I am in love with Angelica Teach," he grinned and squeezed hers.
"Angelica Sparrow," she corrected.
"Excuse me, Misses."
They both sighed and their smiles faded as Angelica's eyes began to droop closed. Jack felt her hand weaken in his and then lightly tapped her awake.
"One more thing." he rustled through a drawer and found a mirror. "You wanted to see Spain."
He held the mirror so that she could see through the window behind her and see the lighthouse and waterwheel on the large cliff side. "It's perfect, Jack." she whispered.
Jack's eyes grew moist again as he watched her gaze through the mirror and her eyes glaze over. She sunk farther and farther down into a laying position.
"Home," she mumbled and closed her glassy eyes. Jack rounded the bed and crawled next to her, not daring to touch and disturb her. He watched her intently, making sure she was breathing normally and that she was her normal tan-skin color. She'd become noticeably lighter since the labor began, and the color had not yet returned. Jack slowly laid himself down beside her, but still could not sleep. "I could watch you for an eternity," he whispered to no one.
