The couple stood on deck as they watched the younger couple grab their belongings and head for shore.
"Be safe, Jackie," Angelica fretted and kissed his cheek.
"I will, Mother."
Jack walked over to his son and patted him on the back. "You've done well, son," He smiled awkwardly.
"Thanks, Dad." Jackie hugged him tight, either breaking or adding to the tension.
"I will write," Jackie nodded to both his parents and grabbed Seraphina's hand in his free one as they walked off the boat. Seraphina daintily waved as they walked off the ship and Jack pulled the board.
Angelica's eyes were misty and Jack put an arm around her shoulders. "He'll be alright," He reassured.
Angelica opened her mouth to say something but closed it again as soon as it had opened and ran to the side of the ship, emptying the contents of her already empty stomach.
"I knew you were sick!" Jack yelled and ran over to her.
Angelica wiped her mouth and turned from the rail to immediately be dragged to Jack's cabin.
"In bed," Jack ordered. Angelica obeyed weakly and held up a finger to protest, but Jack gently pushed it back down to her chest.
"You can't tell me that you are fine. You just spewed up what you ate off the side of me ship," Jack said. Angelica sighed in defeat.
"Do you want anything? Food, water, company, doctor?"
"No doctor," Angelica said quickly, but then became timid, "I don't like them."
Jack smirked and chuckled a little.
"I don't want food or water."
"Anything?" Jack asked.
"Your compass," She held out her hand. Jack's hands flew to protect the object. "Why?"
"It's interesting," She shrugged.
Jack hesitantly handed his treasured trinket to her and watched as she studied the outside before flipping it open.
"It's strange," She commented.
"Some say it's broken."
"I used to, but why would you treasure a broken compass?" She quirked a brow at Jack.
Jack tipped his imaginary hat in approval and continued to watch her feminine hands run over his worn compass. Eventually she handed it back to him and he smiled as he reattached it to his sash.
"You don't trust me with it?" She tested him.
"I don't trust anyone with my compass, love." He winked at her. "You're an exception."
"I'm the first?" She said more seriously.
Jack slowly nodded.
Angelica affectionately smiled at him and reached up her hands for a hug, which he returned and ended with a kiss.
"You'll get sick!" Angelica pulled away quickly.
"It's worth it," Jack sighed in happiness.
Angelica laughed and laid back in the bed.
"I just got wildly tired," She admitted.
"Of course you did, you're sick," He put extra emphasis on sick. Jack covered her better and sat next to her.
Angelica mocked him and they both laughed until she yawned.
"I don't understand this," She mumbled as she rolled to her side and fell asleep.
Jack watched and soon joined her.
"You don't have to. Just sleep," He said as he pulled her hair from her face. Angelica smiled and curled up in a ball beside Jack, who wrapped his rough arms around her protectively.Jack moaned in sleepiness and opened his eyes to find the spot where Angelica once was.
"Damn it, woman!" He cursed as he hurried to find her. He lunged out his door to find her with a crewman pinned against the railing. Jack quickly ran to stop her.
"Angel, what happened!?" Jack asked as he looked at the man's terrified expression.
"He said I was fat!" Angelica turned to Jack and the crew member shook his head vigorously in denial.
Jack gave the man a look. "Did you?"
"I didn't!" The man exclaimed, "I found her rummaging through the cabinet and commented that we wouldn't have any food left."
Jack nodded to the man and put his hand on Angelica's shoulder.
"Let the man go," He cooed and tried to pull her away.
"You aren't going to do anything? Throw him overboard!" Angelica demanded.
"He'll get his punishment," Jack said and turned to warn the man that it was a lie.
Angelica huffed and let Jack take her to the kitchen. He set a plate of eggs in front of her and she looked at them skeptically.
"These are the worst eggs I've ever seen," She commented, getting a glare from the cook and a palm over her mouth from Jack.
"Then don't eat them," Jack suggested, but Angelica forked all of them down. Jack was wide eyed at her sudden appetite, and she noticed.
"What's that look for?"
"You normally eat like a bird, love, and now you're eating like a horse." Jack smirked.
"You're calling me fat too?" Angelica's grip on her knife tightened.
"No." Jack smiled innocently. She huffed and walked back to Jack's cabin.
"Touchy today?" Jack asked.
"Slightly," Angelica answered.
"Darling, in the course of two hours awake you've almost killed two men. What is wrong?" Jack embraced her and she sighed over his shoulder.
"I don't know," She shook her head, "I don't feel right."
"If you don't get well soon I will have no choice but to call for a doctor," Jack said.
Angelica started to protest but Jack silenced her.
"It is for your own good. I'd rather you not die if I can help it," He held her hands.
Angelica smiled at him. "Alright."
"How do you feel now?" Jack asked her.
"Hungry," She answered simply.
"Again?" He made a face. "What do you want?"
Angelica furrowed her brow, "Peppermint?"
Jack threw his hands up in frustration. "Peppermint.. That's what you want? What kind of disease is this!?!"
Angelica shrugged and rummaged through his drawer for some maps.
"Don't touch those," Jack snapped the cabinet closed.
Angelica pouted and Jack crossed his arms.
"You're going to infect everything," He mumbled and went to fetch some peppermint.
