Chapter 76

Today is the day that Meredith's cast is coming off. Well hopefully.

Derek looks at the time and sees that it is time to start getting ready for the day so that they can go to Meredith's appointment. He looks over and sees that Meredith is sleeping still. He is glad she is finally getting some sleep. He felt her tossing and turning all night long. He doesn't think she ended up sleeping much. Derek doesn't think she's been sleeping much at all lately so he's happy whenever she can sleep. Unfortunately he has to wake her up now.

Derek gently rubs Meredith's shoulder in an attempt to wake her up.

"Morning Mer. It's time to wake up." Derek says softly to his sleeping girlfriend.

"No. Don't wanna." She mumbles.

"You need to wake up because we have your appointment to get your cast off. You can take a nap later if you want."

"My cast comes off today?" Meredith mumbles sleepily.

"It does, so let's get up and get ready. What would you like for breakfast?" Derek asks, hoping she'll eat something.

"I'm not hungry." Meredith says with her eyes still closed.

"I'm hungry so you must be too! Come on let's get dressed and get some breakfast."

"I'll get dressed but I'm not eating."

He sighs and decides not to fight with her. They don't have a lot of time before they need to leave the house.

Meredith gets out of bed and goes into the bathroom. She weighs herself and smiles when she sees she has reached another goal weight.

"Yes!" She says softly. Her next goal weight is already in her head. "I have to get to this weight now. I have to."

Meredith leaves the bathroom and gets ready. Soon they are ready to leave for the hospital.

They get to the hospital and sit in the waiting area.

A nurse comes out and calls Meredith's name. "Meredith?"

They stand up and follow the nurse. The nurse leads them to a little room and gets Meredith's vitals which are not good. Derek gets worried when he sees them.

"I'm fine Derek." Meredith says to him. "And by the way, you're not weighing me. So don't try." She says to the nurse.

The nurse starts to say something but is interrupted by Derek.

"Actually Dr Torres and I discussed this already. We're going to get her weight after we get her cast off to see the true number." Derek said to the nurse.

The nurse nods. "Makes sense. Okay follow me."

The nurse leads them to an exam room and leaves them to wait for Callie who comes in a few minutes later.

"Hey guys!" Callie takes one look at Meredith and sees right away that she's lost even more weight. She sees how sickly thin Meredith is and is extremely worried. "How are we today? I heard you hung out with Bailey the other day Grey!"

"You mean she babysat me." Meredith said while rolling her eyes. "I don't need a babysitter. I'm not a little kid."

"Meredith. It's because we're worried about you. We're worried about you being by yourself." Derek said.

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me." Meredith said.

"Okay! Let's get an x-ray and see how that leg is healing!" Callie said trying to redirect the conversation.
