Maple soon returned to the wedding. She tried her best to enjoy what little time she had left. Somehow She still managed to evade her curious Mama for a little while longer. Not to mention, She dare not go near Tator for the rest of the evening.
But the one person she did...
"Grandmama?" Maple said wrapping her arms around her.
"Maple!" Grandmama Hastings squealed tightly embracing Maple.
"I didn't tell a soul..." Maple whispered in her Grandmama's ears.
Grandmama Hastings beyond bewildered gazed into Maple's eyes.
"Why Maple__"
"Your secret is safe with me.." She whispered.
Before Maple could say another word of revelation to Grandmama Hastings, Mama Woods finally caught up to Her...
"Young lady, you have got a lot of explaining to do disappearing most of the day like that. Mama Woods fussed. "Let alone invitin that boy. That I don't understand. And furthermore__"
"Oh naw Scarlet..." Grandmama Hastings interjected cutting Mama Woods off. "Not tonight."
"Perhaps Mama's right. For now, I will leave you be, Maple. Sides, I see yo daddy comin. Looks like I may need to tend to him first instead. I swear that man appears a pale shade of green. Like he done swallowed a bone or some em. Lawd..." Mama Woods exasperated. "I sho hope he didn't get into Georgia Pine's casserole. I told him to stay away from it!" She fussed walking off to tend to her ailing husband.
But it wasn't the casserole that got to him. Rather it was more the kiss between Maple and Tator that he couldn't erase from his whirling mind. But he wasn't about to tell his wife that.
Grandmama Hastings gave the expression of being tickled at the sight as her daughter scurried off. When she turned back around, to question Maple, she was gone...
