By the time, the ladies in that back dressing room at the Agape church chapel, finished boisterously cracking up, Tator's mom, and two other sisters, Pearlina and Roslyn joined in on the joy snd festivities. Even Granny Woods snuck in on the merriment!
In the midst of it all, that little dressing room was crammed to say the least. But so much love filled that room as they all gathered in exchanging the traditionalist of something old, borrowed and blue...
It was a picture perfect day. They all enjoyed each other's company...
In time, Maple was finally ready...
Draped in an elegant gown of satin white from her head to her toes, as the flowers flowed effortlessly in her long dark curls... Maple slowly traipsed out from behind the dressing screen as all gasped in awe!
"Oh you look so beautiful!" They said in their Ooo's and ahhhs...
Maple glowed as she had never done before. That morning, to all she was the very definition of beauty...
She was as they say... the blushing bride...
"Tator's not gone know whut hit em!" Beth Anne said rushing up and embracing her baby sister.
"My brother has supreme taste!" Haley proudly and widely grinned as her sisters cheerfully agreed.
"Whut happened to that chubby little, wild haired girl, with scuffed up knees, and freckles galore on her brown cheeks, that used to climb in my pear tree, higher than my cats could ever go and stole all my best pears?" Mrs. Mavis said winking.
"She grew up..." One said...
"Yeah.." They all agreed.
Grateful for their kind and loving compliments, Maple smiled bashfully, in her comely crimson cheeks, as she gazed appreciatively at her endearing friends and family...
"Mumma..." She affectionately said as she saw her mama tearing up. "Naw you promised!"
"I know... I lied!" Mama Woods said fanning back her tears..
"But I didn't promise!" Grandma Hastings said starting to shed unstoppable tears.
"Me either!" Granny Woods said beginning to squall.
Next thing Maple knew, as a whale drifting in the ocean, nearly all in that room, began to blubber a bit out of control...
"Oh naw... y'all that's enough naw!" Mrs. Mavis firmly said while fighting back tears of her own. "Dry it up!" She said sniffing. "A promise, is a promise. No more tears on Maple's big day."
Clearing up their tears and checking their makeup... the moment had arrived...
"It's time..." Audrey Melrose said coming back into the room. "Whuts with the blubber?" She said looking at the ladies all sniffing. "Dry it up!"
"That's whut I said.." Mrs. Mavis said digging into her purse taking out her hankie. "Bunch of crybabies." She said trying to hide her tears.
"Hush..." Grandma Hastings said lightly smacking her closes friend and blowing her nose.
"Maple... you look the sheer perfection." Audrey sweetly replied walking up to her.
"Thank you, my friend." Maple replied lightly squeezing her hand.
"I still woulda made a better aunt in law than Cornelia. But I'm only sayin." She teasingly replied as Cornelia smacked her arm in return.
"I don't know if I am emotional cause of the baby. Or because I been prayin foe this day, since my weddin day." Cornelia remarked whispering in Maple's ear. "And you know whut I mean." She said now gazing emotionally in Maple's eyes. "Doesn't matter. God has made you into a bride of magnificent beauty and grace. On earth, as well as in heaven."
