"You know..." Mrs. Lexington spoke. "It lovely to see you. It really is. And it was such a pleasant surprise. But I can't help but wonder why it has been so long..."

"I am sorry it has."

"Are you?" Mrs. Lexington wondered. "Oh well... better late than neva yes? She jested. "But it is also a shame that I barely ever see my grandchildren as well. You would thank I was already a ghost." She said gazing at her daughter. "I do miss seeing them. I can't remember the last time Drewsinda and Rex came by. But I will say they do come by once in a blue moon. To see if this old bird is still kicking..." She laughed. "Have you seen your own children lately?"

"I can't say I have." Mrs. Crowder grumbled. Seemed that question kind of hit a nerve. But she sat there and as her mother kept on...

"It's a shame isn't it?" Mrs. Lexington uttered.

"Whut is mother?"

"That they only come to see if you or I have kicked the bucket!" She laughed. "But I hate to disappoint them."

"My children have their own lives.." Mrs. Crowder defended.

"So I see." Mrs. Lexington replied. "And it is a downright shame how they barely even visit their own mother. Especially after Rusty passed. You needed them." Mrs. Lexington woefully said.

"Well I am jest fine, Mother."

"Are you?"

"Perfect.." Mrs. Crowder murmured.

"Nonetheless, it seems they hang on for one reason."

"Again, They have their own lives."

"But not their money so much. And if I didn't know any better I would say you are here for the same. To see if I kicked the bucket that is." Mrs. Lexington snidely remarked as a joke. But Mrs. Crowder was not laughing. "Oh do forgive me, Magnus! That was not very loving of yo mother." She sincerely apologized. But part of her couldn't help but wonder.

But it was evident, she struck a nerve with Mrs. Crowder.

"Naw see that?" Mrs. Lexington abruptly said. "That right there... that look in yo eyes... that is how yo father, if ever I saw him walking the face this earth. And the last time I seen that look on your face..."

Mrs. Lexington started to recall that fateful day when Scarlet fell. And she suddenly became uneasy with her own child.

"Mother..." Mrs. Crowder suddenly uttered staring her mother down... "Are you sho you would not like to go for a walk?"

"I'll catch my death!" Mrs. Lexington replied.

"Yes..." She stood up walking towards the closed windows and opened them to the gray sky. "I guess you would." She said turning back around giving the coldest stare ever...

"Sit back down Magnus!" Mrs. Lexington demanded. She dare not let her own child intimidate her. Mrs. Crowder didn't budge. "I said sit!" She said hitting her walking stick on her chair.

Mrs. Crowder as old as she was obeyed her mother and sat right back down.

Mrs. Lexington took a deep breath in and sat up as straight as she could in that chair. She still had those piercing beautiful eyes that Mrs. Crowder used to so fondly gaze into as a child. And those eyes still haunted Mrs. Crowder all at the same time...

Mrs. Lexington reached for an apple...

"I do say it is quite pickling that I barely get to see my own child." She fussed. "As I said before, it is a rare occasion do I ever see my own flesh come my way." She said feeling perturbed.
