Every single street held a body, whether that be dead or alive. Everything was dark aside from the illumination of the street lights, his lone car being the only one to sit on West Adams Boulevard, everyone else choosing to disperse the second a ring of random fires filled the neighborhood.
The lines were all disconnected, not allowing any calls to be made to the fire department. All street lights in Crenshaw were turned off, all but the few that shone down on him and the house he sat parked in front of. One he'd been watching since arriving, and he knew bodies were in there. He could see it, the attempt at being discreet through the shadows of the blinds not working in their favor.
"Roll me the footage one last time, slow it down 180." He spoke into the phone, eyes glued down at the screen displaying the security footage of the exact street he was on.
He watched as the car sped down the street recklessly, further enhancing the anger he already felt knowing his nephew was in that same car and could've gotten hurt at any moment had there been a crash. His eyes squinted down, watching closely as both the drivers side and passenger side opened together, revealing both a man and a woman, yet neither were Keoni's father. Only way he knew that was because he'd gotten hospital records of the paralysis he caused, and the man in the video was walking too normal for that.
"This look like Elijah and Jaelyn, check the tattoos." Hitting pause at Leon's mention of the two names he hadn't heard in a while, a wide grin slowly began on spreading along his face.
Elijah and Jaelyn.
"Skull tat and heart on the wrist, you would think one wouldn't be so fucking stupid." He chuckled, leaning back in his seat to watch them open the back door where a crying Keoni sat. And at the sight, Syre's face instantly went back in its hardened state it rested in prior.
"That's my grandson?" Glancing over in his father's direction who occupied the passenger seat, Syre only nodded his head. Seeing the amused expression fall over his fathers face, he shook his head. Knowing that's who he got it from.
Placing his eyes back on his phone, he watched Jaelyn grab Keoni carefully to bring him into the house. And from what he could see, there wasn't any other motion involving going in or out of the house with the baby.
Taking a slow pull from his blunt, he turned his head to the side slightly to exhale out, seeing everything he needed to see. Not a drug ran through his body but the marijuana he intook, that only being a temporary fix for the tenseness in his body. But none of it cured the out of touch state his mental was in, one that nobody could see, but he knew.
