Kate
The firemen have been trying to communicate with us but it is still very hard to hear them through the thickness of the doors. It wasn't until they pryed them apart that we could hear them clearly.

"We will get you two out as soon as possible." The blonde helmeted gentleman spoke. He had a look of calmness all over his face and that surprisingly calmed me.

This stranger caused me to instantly feel better, but why? Because I will soon be free of the elevator, or free of Phil?

Phil
When the young man  first told us we would be fine I didn't believe him. I will not be fine, at least not in the mental sense. This vertical trip has changed me,  she has changed me.

The second we step out of this elevator this expierence is over,  she will be out of reach. Will this be the last time I see her beautiful face or hear her amazing laughter? Will my life be the same without her?

I have no answers to my questions,  but what I can answer is to my question earlier; am I happy. The answer now is no, but I could be.

I look to her and flash her a quick grin. She  responds with a quick slight movement of her lips, an attempt at a smile.

I bravely stand up from my spot and walk to her. I reach for her hands and she gently places them in mine as she looks happily into my eyes.

I help her to her feet and she embraces me like she had earlier. Her arms wrap tight around my waist and her head falls to ny shoulders.

Surprisingly she speaks first. "I need you, Phil, more than I want to admit." She whispers.

I squeeze her body gently and we  continue to hold each other until they were ready to pull us both out of this enclosed contraption.

I help her out first then hand her her purse. The blonde gentleman helps me through the doors that were dangerously uneven with the floor of the elevator.

It is amazing to  breathe again. Though it isn't until I notice the faces of those standing around me that I feel truly breathless.

There still in her pajamas, is my wife holding our son crying tears of joy.
