As I shut her door behind me I felt sadness and actual, physical pain. It took everything I had to walk the several steps and get into my car.
It had obviously rained again, raindrops sprinkled over the hood and windsheild, the lights lining the street causing the drops to glisten beautifully. It gave this space an unearthly glow and made me feel like I truly belong here. This was where I needed to be to be happy.
Instead of staying though, I drove the 20 miles to my own unwelcoming home. Time passed too quickly now, even driving below the limit didn't extend the trip.
I pulled up to my fenced yard and entered the pin needed to get inside. The gates parted gracefully for me and my small car. Cruzing along the long drive way I took in my surroundings more than I ever had before. Though the scenery and landscaping was trimmed and kept up to perfection I knew now that this lot was no where near perfect.
The house was white and grand consisting of an unneccesary amount of bedrooms, offices, and bathrooms. It was much too large for the four people that resided inside.
Myself, wife, son, and maid didn't need all this. We are all treated with such care and planning that nothing was ever spontanious and that is not a life I want any more.
Finally pulling into the four car garage I see that my wife's car was also damp, telling me she had left sometime last night.
I walked through the garage and into the main house immediately feeling shivers run up and down my spine.
Near the door leading from the garage, the one I had just walked through, were several red suitcases obviously packed and an airplane ticket balanced on top of the largest one.
