Chapter 1

Melody's dad is the beta of the Skyline Pack. Their pack is located in California. This pack compared to some was well off, most members act like they are high class snobs. Melody's life was great to start with, her mother and father loved her and her brother. She thought they were a happy family, that was until the day her mom, Laurie, left them. When Melody was ten years old, Laurie found her fated mate and left her dad, Michael. This just about broke him, and her brother, Eric, who was 12 at the time.

When Laurie first left, Michael still kind of cared about Melody, was distant but not cruel. As time has gone by, he has grown to hate her. He calls her names, "You are like your mother say one thing then do another, you are a liar just like her. Whoever you are mated to, I feel sorry for, you will leave him then break his heart and his family. Just like Laurie did to this family."

Even her brother has joined their father in the name calling and pushing her around. "Get your ass out here I am hungry you whore. I swear you are useless and good for nothing just liked our mother." Because of them the pack has started doing the same thing to her. "Look who is here the whore sister of the future beta. I heard she sleeps with anything."

Melody does most of the cooking and cleaning in the pack house. They gave her a bedroom in the storage area in the basement. This started when she turned eleven and things got worse when she turned twelve, and every year since. Now being almost eighteen things have been harder.

"Why are you here I told you I didn't want to see you around our suite. Get in your basement."

"I am finishing up cleaning, dad I will be done soon." A hard slap goes across her face.

"What did I tell you about calling me father or worse dad. You should have been done already now get out."

She has turned out just like Laurie, she has similar facial features Melody's are more delicate with high cheek bones, making her prettier. She also has her build. The major difference between her and her mother is her hair. It is much darker like Michael. His new habit is to call her a whore every day, even though she is still a virgin. She imagines her future. "It doesn't matter what they say or do, I will find my mate soon and he will take me away from this, at least I hope so, with what they say about me he might run." This is Melody's fear that he will not want her.

Her only true friend is Bonnie, she tells everyone that Melody is not her mother, that it is not fair to judge her. She still goes to school with Bonnie, and they spend most of their free time together. The senior class yearly trip is coming, all the kids are going skiing. Nervously Melody goes to talk to her father. "Dad, the senior class trip is coming up."

"So, what has that got to do with me? What did I say about you calling me that."

"I'm sorry sir, I was hoping you could help me pay for it, please?"

"Why would I spend my money on someone like you? You have a job pay for it by yourself." That is what she thought he would say.

Disappointed, she heads to her basement. Bonnie stops her on the way. "Melody, is your dad going to help pay for your trip?"

"No, he won't help pay for it, Bonnie. You go and have fun, tell me about it when you get home."

"Let me talk to mom, she might help, her and dad think the world of you."

She has some money saved up, the work she does here gets a small paycheck. Not enough for this trip, especially since she is saving to leave when she turns eighteen and is done with school.

"I told mom I couldn't go without you, that it would not be fun. She said fine and she is going to pay your way."

"Your mom is the best; she is always trying to take care of me. Whenever I get hurt, she bandages me up and makes things better, her and your dad have been there for me. Tell her I said thank you."

Melody looks at the little clothes she has. "It isn't much and not the best, but it will have to do." She packs all her clothes for the trip, she doesn't have a lot of clothes, so she packed almost all of them. Bonnie gave her a dress, the only nice outfit she has, and it fits her so nice. The school is closed for winter break, from Thursday to Monday allowing the seniors can take this trip.

"Remember don't be late we have to be on the bus bright and early." Bonnie is meeting Melody at school to catch the bus at six o'clock on Thursday morning.

Eric, her brother, sees her getting packed. "You think you deserve to go on the class trip. You are nothing but a loser." He throws her clothes on the floor and walks out of her room.

I am so happy he has graduated and isn't in school anymore. He got the kids started even worse than they do now. His best friend Drew, the future Alpha, is a senior this year. He has been away for over two years in Alpha training, so he missed his last year of high school and is making it up. It makes no sense he doesn't even attend class, but he is given credit for being there. My brother, Eric, becomes the beta when Drew becomes the Alpha. Drew came back a week ago, most of the girls in school hadn't seen him yet.

"Hi Bonnie, I can't believe you did this for me, thank you so much."

"Melody, you don't have to thank me, this trip would be so lame without you."

"You have friends you don't need me. I know you would have just as much fun without me."

"Don't lie, you and I both know none of them are as cool as you, girl. You are my bestie and nothing will change that. Let's get the hell on that damn bus."

The bus ride was only two hours long to the mountains. Bonnie brought her music with her, the two of them sang to the music and had such a good time. Ignoring the others on the bus who kept looking at them.

As the bus pulls up to the hotel the students start to exit, one of the girls stopped by their seats. "You sounded really good, Melody. Even with Bonnie squalling in the background. I wanted to thank you for the help with math. I passed the test on Monday."

"Thanks, Carrol, if you need more help let me know." When they step off the bus Melody is surprised. "Look at this place, Bonnie."
